A high privilege was bestowed upon this school when it was allowed to bear the name of the illustrious Robert A. Millikan whose basic research in the unknown field of cosmic rays led so directly to much of today's concern with outer space. Now we are analyzing our educational birthright with grave and sober eyes. We are realizing that our entire future depends upon how well we utilize the facilities which here surround us. No longer is it smart to be mediocre. From our students of today must come the top intellectuals of tomorrow or we perish. And, though we stress the importance of science in today's education, we dare not neglect the other areas wherein we develop the skills of living, of how to get along together in this increasingly complex world, and of how to set in motion and refine our creative abilities for the benefit of mankind. This is a comprehensive high school rather than a narrowly specialized one. ln it are both specialization and diversification to meet the needs of all youth, and these pages disclose many facets of each. Life could be disastrous without culture and conscience to balance science and atomic power. Education, more than ever before, is the most important function of our nation. By slowing or retarding its main purpose, by failing to develop, each to h.is highest potential, we could actually endanger our very existence. Each student here has a grave responsibility to do his very best, to develop his abilities to the utmost. lt is unpatriotic to do otherwise. Eaton O. Bemis, Principal
