MSC MELLOWS OUT WITH NASH Grohom Nosh maintained his concentration enough to provide on acoustic evening of music, in spite of the mony distroctions from the Spring Fling oudience oi Pucillo Gymnosium Nosh with William Smith on synthesizer ond keyboards ond Joel Bernstein on acoustic guitor put forth o professional sound with o minimum of equipment. In o generous but unexpected gesture Nosh requested thot the borners be removed so people could be closer to him ond hear the quiet, calming sound of his guitor ond piano Leoh Kunkel. the opening oct. wos also predominately ocousucs-onented She commented thot with this type of music You'll find something for everyone Kunkel who hos released one solo album, hos sung on various albums os o bockup soloist but os everyone realized she is fontostic by herself Ploying only the piano, ond loter occomponied by William Smith Kunkel belted out thought-provoking lyrics with steady melodies. A blues-gospel song written by Smith I've Been Saved, showed the excellence ond range of Kunkel s voice Nosh come strolling out on stage ot 9 30 looking very comfortable in o glowing oronge ond purple Howoiion shirt ond khoki pants He stood there ond grinned, ond finally asked how everyone wos doing. The oudience responded emphatically to his opening number Military Modness Following with Southbound Train Nosh Bernstein ond Smith provided an opportunity for o close intimate give ond take between the oudience ond them selves The crowd wos up for o loud evening ond they were surprised ot the sereness when Nosh ployed Just o Song Before I Go with the synthesizers flowing like violions. It wos definitely o sitdown concert almost dossicol in o sense Nosh did two songs from his latest album Sky Child ond Out on the Island.” both very soft accenting his light, dear voice Nosh who hos always been very oudience oriented, wos upset thot the very people he ollowed to get close to Gtohom Nojh mellows out (photo by Mena Studios ln (Oeiow) Leoh Kunkel ond Gtohom Nosh emenom the pocked Puollo Gymnosium (photo by Chnstophe Wroten) him were standing up ond blocking the view for mony others. At one point during the concert he sotd firmly Sit down, ond I don't wont you to stond up ogom. The people sot down but were bock up ogom os Nosh ond Bernstein went from Winchester Cothedrol to Chicogo The former wos done beautifully, the synthesizers resounding like violins, just enough to moke the live version os powerful os the recorded one For on encore Nosh did Teach Your Children' (with Kunkel joining in). By this time he could hordly hear himself ond wos gritting his teeth ond spitting out the words to the ironically appropriate song.
