16On the last day in the last hour a numbered few walk from the office into the yellow wash of the sun. What themes that haunt us yet could we have converted into a serious truth-narrative? Before the fact we chose "touchstone" as a theme. The history of the touchstone fascinated us. Culminating our concerns with the touchstone we came to see the touchstone as a litmus against which we gauge our thoughts and actions. Ultimately, to be put to the touchstone i to be assayed. Herein we are assayed. And thus the theme: A gift of tremendous care from the old man highlighted by perspectives of the world for which he cares. Do not assay only your photogenic qualities hut look to the freewheeling struggle from straight-laced annual reporting and then decide: Did the Touchstone survive the test?

MW! AFTER COMMENCEMENT ACROSS THE TRAMPLED, PROGRAM-LITTERED LAWN A THOUSAND YELLOW CHAIRS HAVE BROKEN RANKS BEFORE THE RAMROD-SILVER MICROPHONE THAT STANDS THERE ON THE PLATFORM UNADDRESSED AND FINISHED WITH THE CLICHES OF COMMAND.
O CEREMONY, CEREMONY, LET EXPRESSION BE THE MERE FORMALITY THE DAY DEMANDS: FOR ONLY EMPTINESS HAS GENERALITY ENOUGH TO SEND YET ONE MORE GENERATION TO THE WORLD,
AND PLATITUDES BECOME THE THINGS THEY ARE BY BEING UNINFORMATIVE AND TRUE:
THE WORDS THAT FOR THE HUNDREDTH TIME TODAY BOUNCED OFF THE SUNLIT STONES INTO THE PAST HAVE MADE THE SILENCE DEEPER BY DEGREES.

Cross the threshhold to under the portico.
For December it is rare that the wind blows Like the wind at the shore. The sun is warming.
A flick at a hair: “Oh this unruly mane!"
Ah! We! What is a clever combination Of words? Our love-ad infinitum ... H-rn-m! Infinite
Love I had then. Today. Mate, could I shelve This feeling? That I could preserve all this wealth
Of love. I cannot fathom or fixate Our disease. It caught us. You know we were great!
Such tears of inexplicable joy and love Weren’t shed even at the flight of the dove From the ark. lie knows 'tis true so He commands That Nature do herself up for wedding bands Exchanged. This windy, easy day of the sun.
You and I finally, finally, are one.
In the piece of writing above, the reader is hardly informed of the text of the ceremony that the newlyweds speak of. One can only know that the ceremony indeed was a moving one. probably written by the couple themselves as is the fashion, and the witnesses could hardly restrain their emotions in the wake of the proceedings.
The action finds the couple emerging from the church into an exceedingly unscasonal warm sun. The human mind should never be at a loss to inject meaning into his environment. The couple is no exception.
In poetic harmony the world falls into a two-fold congruity of that which is sensual and that which is cerebral. The heightened anticipation of the physical union and the beginning of a lifetime of planning probably causes the couple to engage in such meaningful dialogue. To them their marriage becomes symbolic of the stories of eternal joy that permeate our culture.
It would be unjustifiable, even in rainy Millersville. to have a Graduation ceremony proceed in perverse weather. The marriage in the poem becomes symbolic of the Graduation ceremony. One. in a sense, marries into life. Does it sound corny? Like the couple, you the graduate have spent many years in planning for the event. One feels a certain ache to apply the knowledge that has been earned over the seventeen some years in school.
As it has been said, it is nearly obscene for it to rain or blow on Graduation day. The essayist supposes a perverse twist: It rains in Millersville on Graduation day! Shall we assume that the gods are displeased with our actions? Are we pretenders to the title of a ITS.? Truly that if the day of graduation is marred by lightning: if your parents' pictures are spoiled because they neglected a Hash for indoors: if a heel collapses while you receive your diploma: never mind. Such inconveniences should affect you as much as does the number of whiskers on the chin of a mouse. Should the weather prove perfect: the sun shining banana yellow and the sky glowing aqua-blue. on this account you count, among other things, the debts you have just begun to repay.
85Graduation Ceremony In Perspective
By graduations we come to accumulate the knowledge that makes up the purpose to which we profess. Bits of knowledge accumulate in the brain until we come to know a prescribed amount of things that enable us to graduate from college. But to say we are to graduate is a perversion of the sense of the word. Graduation in this sense connotes a great leap forward. By any standard the day spent in graduation solemnity and gaiety is lost. We graduate; get plastered: and spend several days in recovery. In the majority of cases, not one iota of time is spent in study. Should we profess that study ends at Graduation?
There is some salvageable worth in these obvious exaggerations. Graduation is no step-backward in the learning process. Learning constantly must be put into some perspective as in relation to its end. Surely we can assess our progresses on our own. So why do we need the ceremony of Graduation?
Ceremony. Practiced by the ancients and the moderns alike, we learn a great deal from it. We as people are brought together. All face the same predicament. In an endless string of terminating experiences and forced new beginnings we gather to relate the past and predict the future. In Graduation we resolve to acquire perspective toward present accomplishments in order that tomorrow we may continue.
The essence of the core of Graduation is that all people practice it in one form or the other. We are all placed in sometimes a pretty damnable predicament. If by transcending the fears we all face at Graduation, we come to sec what bothers the fellow across the ocean, we have learned something.
The great thinkers of all times have echoed these sentiments. If the beauty of the primal awareness that we arc all brothers is lost in the cliches pronounced at Graduation, we have something yet to remember. There is a tomorrow' with which one can continue to discover the other person’s viewpoint. We can create our cosmology until our death.
If and when one of you is called upon to speak at some future graduation, observe this: the looks upon the faces of those who are in your former predicament. If at all you can pair your platitudes to some moving meaning to give something to those who are going out on their own. you have indeed graduated many times. And you have made a great leap forward.87IWho’s Who:

Or maybe they can go beyond their energies to complete a task.

JUST ONCE IGNORE THE CONTEST.

COUNTENANCE.
AS THE GAME REPRESENTS LIFE,
HIS EXPRESSION REPRESENTS STRIFE
OR SUCCESS IN HIS MATCHINGS
WITH CHANCE.The rumbling of the cannon could be heard echoing across campus much more frequently during Saturday afternoons this past fall. Thus signaling successful scoring drives, the cannon and the roaring crowd witnessed the rise of the tough new Marauder.
The football team has forged winning ways. To the graduating seniors who played a part in establishing the present tradition, we salute your perserverence. To the younger members who will be coming back, we look forward to the moment when only the margin of victory is in question. We urge Gene Carpenter and his footballers onward in further quests.

Prospects for the coming season in girl’s hockey are high as this year’s team has virtually all starters returning for the 72-73 season. Following two mid-season setbacks the Marauder lassies soundly thumped York to resume winning ways for the remainder of the year.
Four of the girl’s starters were named to the Central Penn first-team, while two were named honorable mention. It can be seen that the hockey team’s success was attributed to a well balanced attack.

This year's Marauder Booters consistently outshot their opponents by a considerable margin. They were, however, hampered by their inability to either put the extra zip into scoring thrusts or unable to make the followup shots on near-goal rebounds. Despite such fortunes, the Marauders maintained their spirit to the very end of the season. They never were out of any contest.

Recent seasons in the Millcrsvillc Cross-Country world have proven highly successful. So successful have Coach Cy Fritz’s charges been that the whispers of an undefeated season in '72-73 are becoming expectations. A particularly bright spot for the Marauder (hin-clads was sophomore jell Bradley, who placed third among the top runners in NAIA competition. This earned him All-American honors. As a team the runners finished first in the District-19 NAIA competition.

The Marauder basketball scene shone not so brightly in the won-lost perspective. Who can discern the difficulty but those who will return to raise the flag of the fallen basketball tradition. Special well-wishes go out to three graduating seniors who with exemplary displays of sportsmanship and desire have made MSC basketball a worthwhile activity. They arc: Steve Powell. Mike Kamen and Mike Phillips. The final game of the year hopefully predicts of things to come as the squad soundly thrashed Shippcnsburg to end on a winning note.

DEVON. PCNNA.Something to cling to in time, the touchstone is a memento brought from the dusty closet in a fit of nostalgia. It is a perspective getter. A reminder that at one time things were not so good: but at the same time neither were they so bad. Shall we the editors be so presumptuous to assume that this book shall become a touchstone? Will you read it out? Discover what we mean, even if we have failed? And so some of you graduate. At best, one-fifth of your life is past. Without being maudlin, we present these thoughts on the future. Life is a ground-floor opportunity—that is. one writes his own ticket.
Their keeper had died amongst them.
In twenty-thousand bee-lives there manifested an Internal swarm of confusion. Outwardly, each in respect paused in silence: Mushed noisy comers-in Who. while reveling in pollen, had not heard The death news.
Bee-life resumed.
And the wind dried a tear from a closed eyelid. And a fresh worker pried open his waxen womb.
"Spirits pay no fare for ferry o'er the earth.
And since this morn in The Spirit's Spirit of St Louis’ upper berth I 'vc criss-crossed this jewel—
I hinging like an opal on the black velvetu A thousand times.
More than twice my life’s earn Nothing now;
Would have cost me to make the l;inh of I Or London town, l o 'Visit his eloquence's place of birth; To scramble through his bee loud glade Or to measure the Catskill's girth horn Champlain around to Upper lay Like a skylark all the day I've sallied and I’ve skirled. From my long-laden carriage I’m free (A cosmic comprehension)
To hell with Immortality!
