I K. JOSEPH MEIER. Chairman. MATHEMATICS Dr. Joseph . Meier foresees sweeping changes in the math department as lie lakes over as ehairman of the department following Dr. George Anderson who served eight years in that capacity. The department hired four new professors this year and plans to add another four next year. I lie diverse capability of entering students, the adjustment of the former curriculum to new advancements, and the coordinating of different disciplines within the math department arc only a few of the problems facing the new chairman. To meet these problems, changes are underway: the student will begin with an intuitive approaeli to form general ideas, the curriculum will he revised to meet the student's ability, and courses will lie taught with related disciplines in mind.
