CHARLES G BURNS Under the able leadership of Mr Charles Burns Mlller has taken its place alongside the finest schools in the c1ty He has guided Miller from the rank of democratic ideals and ab1l1ty as a leader are reflected 1n the morale of his staff Mr Burns attended high school in Leonard his home town After graduating he entered Michigan State College at East Lanslng from which he recelved his B S degi ee in engineering and forestry He started his professional career 1n 1915 by Jommg the attendance Department Wlthlh a year he was transferred to the ungraded room of the old Bishop School a tough asslgnment In 1917 Mr Burns went to Camp Custer as a c1v1l ian engineer During his stay there he had charge of bulldlng materials laylng of water malns and bullding of septic tanks Upon completlon of the camp Mr Burns returned to his Bishop Boys rema1n1ng until 1919 when he was transferred to Northwestern Hlgh School From Northwestern he went to the Barbour Intermedlate where his f1ne wolk 15 still praised In 1932, Mr Bulns came to Miller as head of the Mathematics Department Th1S promotlon was the beginning of a Selleb which in elght short years carried him to the top Miller students are proud to have for their pr1nc1pal a man of such wide experlence and deep understandmg FRU 'I'Ll ll GE ERAL As f1ne an assistant as you will find anywhere IS Mr Shelby Harrlngton His understanding and ad V106 have helped many a student in his problem Though Mr Harrington was born 1n Grand R8P1dS M1ch1gan he came to Detrolt as a boy He attended Central High School and later completing his studies at the Detroit Teachers College left Detroit for post graduate work at the Teachers College Columbia Um versity In 1917 Mr Harrington joined the Detroit School System as a physical director at Northern From Novembei 1917 to July 1918 he served as 2nd Lt in the 166th Depot Brlgade which was sta tloned at C mp Louls Washington H1s chief assign ment while at Camp was that of physical director of the company His understanding of men and ab1l1ty to organlze and dlrect them fully equipped hlm for this SGIVICB This experience has helped him in h1s present role of dlsciplimng and instilling character in Miller students Durmg February 1922 Mr Harrington came to M11 ler as head of the Health Department a pos1t1on he retained until 1933 when he was promoted to the position of asslstant principal SHELBY A HARRINGTON ' 7 . . , . l 7 7 . , .
