'A W As our period of enlistment at Milford Township High School nears its end, we pause for awhile and reflect on the four short years we have spent together. As green enlistees we entered the ranks of Milford Township High School in the fall of l938 with fifty-eight members in our division. After initiu ation we got in the full of swing of the various activities. Our officers were: President, Arthur Waltersg Vice-President, George Fanningg Secretary, Jean Callahang Treasurer, Arlene Carterg with advisers Mr. Lathrop and Mr- Werner. Members of the Student Council, which was organized for the first time this year, were Kenneth Harness, Marilynn Haines, and the class Presi- dent, Arthur Walters. It was this year that the Junior Frolic was originated. An award was to be given to the winning stunt--these were put on by various classes. we are proud to say that although we were considered recruits, our stunt, nTelevision Comes to Milford,u was voted the winner. This entitled us to have our class year inscribed on the placque. The eighth grade visitation day when the eighth graders from the grade schools in our district visit and are entertained was also originated this year. It proved to be a great guide to all fresh recruits the next year, because they felt more at home upon entering high school. All too soon our recruit days were over and after a short vacation we entered high school again, this time as Privates, with fifty-three members. A change of officers was noted this year when Melvin Weyand, who transferred from Onarga Military Academy, was chosen Presidentg Arlene Carter, Vice- Presidentg Marilynn Haines, Secretary-Treasurer. Our advisers were Miss Brainard and Mr. Brown. Student Council members were Jean Callahan, Ralph Weber, and Melvin Weyand. Again our dramatic abilities found expression and we were doubly proud when the stunt uSchool Dazeu was chosen first in competition for recognition on the placque. The one great problem confronting us when promoted to the rank of Sargeant was the Junior-Senior Prom to be given in the spring. Under'HB leadership of: Shirley Newlin as President: Noah Hickman, Vice-President: Evelyn Hofoling, Secretary-Treasurer: Student Council Members Kenneth

A5 1if,jg9 it .a ff ' , 1 it -7579, :.-. sNQ:q4f w w Harness and Earline Dickeyg and our advisers, Miss Riegle and Miss Murphy, we started toward our goal of raising money. The first step in raising money to promote this Prom was the Junior Chili Supper which was held after the Homecoming Game. As is the custom, our Junior Class put on a one-act play, uGeodnight Please,n at the time of our Junior Frclic. This was the second step toward our goal of raising money. Our last project was the Waffle Supper before the Milford-Gilman basketball game. These, together with various other concessions, constituted the amount we deemed necessary to raise for the Junior-Senior Prom. The theme of our very successful Prom was a Hawaiian Garden. Many comments were made on the way the gym was transformed into a mythical garden u der the artistic ability of some of our talented class members. At the beginning of our Senior year the various officers had already been chosen: namely, Noah Hickman, President: Melvin Weyand, Vice-Presidentg Duane Crist, Secretary-Treasurer. Our Student Council members are Earline Dickey, Donald Hawthorne, and Noah Hickman. Our advisers are Miss Butscher and Mr. Rich. Our sponsor is Miss Firchau, who takes care of the major activities of the class. Our first great problem was to choose the studio to take our Senior pictures and by a unanimous vote we chose the Blankenburg Studio of Kanka- kee. We then elected our Annual Staff and made plans for the yearbook. As we had to put on a stunt for the Junior Frolic, and being determined to win the placque again, a committee appointed by our president chose as our stunt nCanna-buls, or Who Melted a Missionary?n and we were honored again by having our class year inscribed on the roll of honor. The Class of 1942 has won the placque as many years as possible for it to be won. Since we had our Senior trip in view, we wanted to make all the money possible. Our first means was the Senior Play, nGrowing Pains,Vi in which every member of the class made a success. January was the month designated for our concessions 'and every boy and girl in the class strived to make all the money possible. Graduation -1 And then what? But as we pause to say good-bye, we are not gone, we are ever present -- the Spirit of the Class of '42 will still live on.
