On The Air r , Early in January, Arthur Cowen, of KICK asked us to have a 30 minute program on the air, February 8, at 2:30. There were many surprised looks when the pupils found the 'wonderful news on the study hall black board. Looking from one to another they replied, Just think, on the . ll - air . - ' It was decided from the beginning that it would be all music. The music students then filed into the music room, the doors were closed, and the work began. Everyone asked what was going to be on their program, The answer was. Listen in on KJCK at 2:30, February 8 . On February 8, 16 of Milford's High School students piled into cars and were off to Junction City. A They all met at the stairway leading up to KJCK and went up to the e studio together. ' , At 2:30 sharp Mr. Cowen introduced us to the radio audience and we were at last On The Air . Merrill Jones, who was our first announcer introduced the following: 'On the road to Mandalay' - Mixed ensemble 'l'll always Love You' - Trumpet solo - Roy Head I I 'Stouthearted Men - Boys Sextet Days of Youth 'Moonglow' - Saxophone solo - Buford Miller 'Spanish Gypsy Dance' - Piano solo - Ruth Roether H Q At this point we have a new announcer. Roy Head takes over the 'mike', and intro- duced the latter part of the program, which consists of: Making Love Ukulele Style - Trumpet solo - Larry Jones I - - I 'Softly As In a Morning Sunrise -L Girls glee club When Day ls Done 'Maple Leaf Rag' - Trombone solo - Merrill Jones 'Make'Be1ieve' - Vocal solo - Roberta Mellinger 'Oklahoma' - Mixed ensemble V This completed our radio program, Everyone 'thought it a very interesting ex- perience. We wouldn't mind if we could doit again sometime.

The Kansas Association for Youth is an organization for both Junior and Senior high school boys and girls. They are known as the Kayettes and the boys as 'the Kays The basic philosophy of the organization is to teach the members, through regular programs, service projects and recreational activities, the positive approach of life. We have one-half hour a week for each meeting. These are planned in advance .V On November 7-8, Charlotte Bentz , Velma Stevens, Roberta Mellinger, and Mrs. .Tones attended a Kay-Kayette conference at Council Grove. The first day began with registration and was followed by a general session and party. The day was started with meditations and was followed by discussion groups, general session, luncheon and recognition service. Ruth Roethe and Roberta Mellinger were the delegates sent to summer camp which was at Arkansas City. The purpose of the camp is 'to develop leaders.
