ap town On .lanuary 15, eighteen days out of May- port, the MIDWAY tied up to Duncan's Dock, Capetown, in the Union of South Africa. Com- ing into port, we were impressed with the early morning sight of Table Mountain and its flank- ing peaks, Lions Head and Devils Peak . Roar- ing Skyraiders provided pinwheel support as the MIDWAY maiestically swung around before the eyes of thousands of enthusiastic South Africans. lt was summer in Capetown and everyone was in the mood for a holiday. Although only in Capetown for two days, the men of the MIDWAY were captivated by the generous hospitality of the South Africans. Two huge drill halls were opened for crew's dances, we were beaten by a South African baseball team at a match we all enjoyed, and we went to countless receptions, lawn parties, barbecues and other social events. Many crew members were lucky enough to take the cable car to the top of Table Mountain where you can see the iungle countryside, the half-moon shaped Table Bay and the lovely city. Wandering through the city was also ,de- lightfuli The shops were modern and African curiosities were readily available.
