CLASS HISTORY On September 8, 1936, fifty-nine ngreen horns' as we were then known, entered Midvale High School. As freshmen we wandered hope- lessly and fearfully through the strange rooms, getting ourselves accustomed to the surroundings. After becoming acquainted with our teachers and classmates, we proved ourselves to be very good fresh- men. Our adviser, Mr. Lembright, helped us through some very uneasy moments. As Sophomores, and not quite so timid, we really became a part of the institution and all of us were very active in the school par- ties and athletics. It was in this year our present adviser, Miss Moore, became known to us. Her careful guidance has helped us over the many obstacles that high school days maturally bring. To our astonishment our Sophomore year slipped by rapidly and before we knew it we were Juniors. Our Junior play, 'I Like Your Nerven was one exciting event of our Junior year. Then the Junior- Senlor banquet brought the year to a close, with many successes and honors. And then the Senior year--the year of all years - - approached! Even though our class had diminished to twenty-nine members we be- with vim and enthusiasm. The presentation of the class play, 'Prof- essor, How Could Youn and the publication of the nmidhiannmarked our final accomplishments. Now our high school career is at an end. We sincerely hope that our presence at dear old M. H. S., has created a feeling of friendship and loyalty in the hearts of the under-classmen. This year will be long remembered as one of the most thrilling in M1dvale's history. The Midvale High School Track and Field team went down fighting with a third place in the Invitation meet at Uriohsville. In a dual meet with West Lafayette, they emerged victorious. They won the county meet by an over-whelming score in which Sugarcreek was their closest competitor. The Midvalers came in second at the District meet against keen competition. The Midvale nine started the 1959 baseball season off with a bang. We met Tuscarawas at home and, behind the consistent pitching of Bill Holmes, we piled up a lopsided score of 12-5. Then we met Port Washington and downed them easily by a score of 15 to 5. Due to Bill Haney, promising Goshen lad, the Midvale Blue Devils were able to down a tough Bolivar team 6 to 2. The Devils edged Tuscarawas in a hard fought battle, lO-6. Journeying to Bolivar in our next game, the Blue Devils had to fight an uphill battle, but finally came out on top 12 to 8. We tasted defeat for the first time when the Gnaden- hutten Indians set us back by a score of lO to 4. The Midvale Blue Devils began thel959 basketball season by win- ning the firstfour games in easy fashion. In the fifthgame we met up with our old rivals, the Strasburg Bengals. The contest was close, but finally ended in defeat for Midvale, 22 to 20. The Blue Devils then went along smoothly until they met Dennison, where they met de- feat for the second time by a breath-taking score of 17 to 16. After drubblng Dundee 45 to 27, we met Strasburg for the second time. With nBuzzyn Young showing the way, we over-whelmed the Bengals 50 to 21. We again hit our stride rolling over Sherrodsville and MineralC1ty. Our third and last defeat of the regular season was to Bollvar,l7 to 15. Next we walloped a strong West Lafayette five by a score of 41 to 29. In our last league game we edged Tuscarawas 58 to 56. The season ended in a three-way tie for first place in league games. We won our first two tournament games. In the third, we defeated Tusky 29-25. Ford, with four seconds remaining to play, gave Midvale the edge over Strasburg, 28-26. We trounced Millersburg and Berlin to earn a position at the District in Dennison. There wedefeatedChest- erhill 59-54. In the finals we drubbed West Lafayette 56-50, making us the District representative to Columbus. In our first game at Columbus we met Bluffton and beat them 45 to 55. The rangg Smith- field bunch defeated us 59 to 29, thus ending our season. e have quite a number of new trophies to add to our already goodly number, a league trophy, a County Tournament trophy, a District trophy, and individual medals. Good luck to Baldwin, Leggett, Dallau, Johnson, Morrison whose dazzling basketball careers ended with this season. We hope that the teams in coming years will have many more successful seasons for good old Mldvale High and that they always live up to our ideals of sportsmanship. 52 L DALLAU V PARIS GYOUNG 'A -1 ill! The small, mid-western town by the nameof Shady Greens provided the setting for this hilarious comedy. The curtain of the first act found Whitey, manager of the hotel at Shady Greens, busy at his desk in the hotel lounge. There fol- lowed a terrible mix-up when the hotel guests heard of robberies that had occurred in near-by Dewport, where numerous millionaires found relaxation during the summer season. The police had been un- able to find the crooks, and McCafferty, a plain clothes detective, expected the biggest robbery of the season to occur at Shady Greens Hotel that night. That afternoon a young bachelor named Jim y Ander- son had a collision with another young man. Jimmy was brought into the hotel, not hurt, but a triffle ruffled. There he met his friend McCafferty, and the jolly Irishman persuaded Jimmy to disguise him- self as Count Divani, who in the end turned out to be the rlngleader of the crooks. The play had the audience in continous laughter thru characters, Oscar Oop and Lucy Betts, who played comedy leads. The climax took place when Oscar Oop and his fiancee Lucy solved the mystery by discovering the scarab. Jimmy and attractive Mary Newton fell in love as was expected. The final curtain closed on a very happy and excited group who portrayed UI Like Your Nerve.n PROFESSOR, HOW COULD YOU! nProfessor, How Could You,W a farce in three acts, was presented April 17, 1940, at the High School Auditorium. The story takes place in a small college town. The dean of the college is resigning and his deanship is offered to Keats Perry, a young professor of history at the college. However, Keats is noteli- gible for the position until he is married which must be done within three days. Grandpa Perry, Bogglns, the butler, Vicky Randolph and John Appleby plan a little scheme to get Keats a wife. They eachplace a bet on a girl whom they think will be suitable for Keats. The girls in the race for the wife are Valerie Whitman, a Southern char- mer: Priscilla Morley, a sweet young girly and last but not least, Tootsie Bean, a plump spinster who tries vigorously to get Keats by her Nlemon chiffon pien. A dinner party is held to get the girls ac- quainted and from there on everything is a continual mixup untilJohn Appleby, Keats' helpful friend, impersonates a girl,supposed1yKeats' wife.He brings three children on thescene only to complicate matters more. The climax comes when Keats declares Vicky Randolph as his true love. Grandpa is delighted because he has secretly placed abet upon Vicky. Grandpa wins the money and Keats gets the deanship. 40 The publlcatlon of th1s Book was made posslble by these Advert1sers and the Donatlons of others ENDRES FLORAL CO QUALITY FLOW ERS AND SERVICE IS GOOD 631 West Hlgh Avenue NEW PHILADELPHIA OHIO Safford Busmess College PUBLIC SQUARE Neva Phlladelphla Oh1o Has had a steady placement of students COMPLIMENTS OF 'I H F 5 I' G oovsn or-no MAURER TAILOR SHOP 2.09 W Hlgh Axe NEW PHILADELPHIA OHIO Establlshed 1888 Youngen Insurance A gency Evervthmg m Insurance PUBLIC SQUARE NEW PHILADELPHIA OHIO PATRONIZE THEM Mldvale Hlgh School Purchases xts CLASS RINGS From JOE COX DOVER OHIO Herff Jones Company COMPLIHENTS OF The PURE OIL COMPANY YOU BUY ONLY QUALITY MERCHANDISE AT Godfrey s Electrlc Store Dual 38012 Dovsn omo FDWIN A PRESTON Dlstnbutor of School Busses LEESVILLE OHIO COMPLIMENTS OF R O B B S BAND Box DRY CLEANERS NEW PHILADELPHIA OHIO V . . , .
