MIDLAND, TEXAS, 1958 .. Midland represents a town of rapid growth. ln l9440, we had a population of 9352: Midland, in less than twenty years, has now reached a population of ovcr 50,000 Our school enrollment from l9440 to l958 has increased from 2,213 to l2,000. Yes, an oil discovery in Pecos County in 1926 was the birth of Nlidland as a central location for oil companies. The Petroleum Building, erected in 1928, was the first of many to come. Now, nestled together are fifty- nine office huildings making Midland rank fifth in the state in office space. Without this fairy tale growth of Mid- land, M.H.S. could not have expanded. Yes, we should appreciate our city, for it has become a dear and welcome home for many of us, and in later years it will he said that it was here we spent our most cherished days-those of at- tending Midland High School.
