958 r ta. THE VIEW IS NEW, THE SPIRIT IS TRADITIONAL . . . Tremendous expansion of the physical plant was a key- note of this banner year, 1957-58. Midland High School took new strides forward in expanding activities as well as remodeling our buildings. New buildings and many im- provements were seen, clearly revealing that our increased student body called for increased facilities. With our ex- pansion came changes which greatly helped us to cope with our situation of a rapidly growing school, increasing in greatness and grandness. Yes, it is not hard to see that great expansion has taken place in Midland High School, and so, for this reason, EXPANSION 1958 has been our theme in this annual which we, the Catoico Staff, present to you. IT,S AN M.H.S. TRADITION-CONTINUED GROWTH AND EXPANSION. THIS WAS THE YEAR- our old front was torn down and replaced by something new. THIS WAS THE YEAR- our football stadium's seating capacity was almost doubled. THIS WAS THE YEAR- our science department provided a dream world of facilities for greater scholastic achievement. THIS WAS THE YEAR- our study hall and cafeteria became one, and air con ditioned at that. THIS WAS THE YEAR- our Student Body awaited the coming of our foreign exchange student. THIS WAS THE YEAR-- strangest of all, our building suddenly extended to the auditorium and the long walk to assemblies was no more. With the closing of the 1957-58 session, another major step will have been made in our life. We must leave this school year behind, and yet, we earnestly hope that you will cherish this book to help you recapture the memories of high school. CHANGE IS TRADITIONAL, and life goes on. Yester- day is deadg it is for today that we live and toward tomorrow that we face, with courage, and hope, and conviction. 5
