4llll. uu- C7 San.. BDARD QF EDUQATIUN ADMINISTRATIVE DIVISION J. HoI.'r JowELI.. PRESIDENT FRANK MONROE. SUPERINTENDENT BUSINESS SERVICES ------ T. WHITEHEAD THORNTON HARDIE' JR v'CE'PREs'DENT MIDLAND. TEXAS CuRRIcuI..AR SERVICES ----- HAROLD H. HITT Mns. ROSALIND REDFERN. SEcv JAMES L DAUGHERTY SPECIAL SE v c s - JNo. O. RODGERS RALPH U. FITTING, Jn W. DAVE HENDERSON February 23, 1954 ROBERT J. ZONNE DEAR STUDENTS: Americans have long believed that democracy will fail unless its citizens are educated to their responsibilities. During the twentieth century our schools have increased greatly in importance, because they have been charged with the responsi- bility of preparing young men and women to face problems which with each decade seem to grow more complex. One of the key ideals of American life is the belief that through education every individual may advance as far as his talents can carry him. It is the goal of your school administration that every one of you shall have the opportunity not only to develop your own capabilities, but to grow in such basic and desirable attitudes that our country will be a finer place because of you. We hope that as your school days continue, you will come to feel that because you are a product of the American way of life, no obstacle--none whatever, can prevent you from realizing the best that lies within you. Sincerely yours, Frank Monroe FM:pm

There at its warmth gathered the family group to find safety, comfort, education and companionship. The fireplace was a focus point, hence we have the be- ginnings of what the home has meant to civilization. To say thata person is homeless usually presents a picture of man in a state of deep loneliness. It is true that life is a journey and we are all on a pil- grimage, out when distance has lost its enchantment and a number of the various wonders has been experienced, man longs for a place to go for contentment, home is the answer. Supplementing the home today is the school, this institution being neces- sitated by a more complex living standard. It therefore behooves each individual in school to do his best to fit himself to meet the problems of life in a way that will be a credit to himself as well as all humanity. It is the hope of each of us that Midland High School will meet the needs of each individual, and that life will be much more wholesome because of our association one with another. Sincerely, Qvvxjwrkag Don L. Mitchell DLM:tct
