MIDLAND PUBLIC SCHOOLS FRANK MONROE. SUPERINTENDENT MIDLAND, TEXAS February 21, 1952 DEAR STUDENTS: This year of 1951-52 finds some very important trends on our horizon and almost everyone of them appears to be a healthy sign. We know that in a democracy, people must assert their privileges of voting, else gradually they lose that privilege. In our own county and state more poll taxes have been paid this year than ever before. That is foremost among the desirable trends. ft is your responsibility and your heritage to help keep our country safe by pledging yourselves to vote when you are old enough to do so. Many people are criticizing the present state of affairs and perhaps rightly so, but let's remember to hold our official positions high. Dis- tinguish between the office and the office holders, always endeavoring to place men of character in places of public trust. The word Hpoliticsn in our present day has rather an unpleasantcon- notation, but a politician of integrity is one who has more real interest in public affairs than others. If we are to continue to govern ourselves, we must continue to be vitally interested in public affairs even to the point of active participation. This has been a memorable year because nidland Senior High School has achieved unusual successes in new phases of development. You are to be congratulated for those satisfactory results. Most of you havefastened your ideals to a star, and I am wishing for you the best of everything in attaining your shining goal. Sincerelyiyours, Frank Monroe
