Center Jimmy Edwards intercepted a Sweetwater pass and got to the 14-yard line in Sweetwatefs end of the field be- fore he was dragged down from behind. Several plays later Quarterback Yeager went over for the touchdown. Yeager missed the try for extra point. Sweetwater won. but they had to come from behind to beat a fighting bunch of Bulldogs. On the Big Spring Steer's home grounds the Bulldogs pulled one out of the fire in the last five minutes of the game and won 9-6. Dunny Goode, Bobby Cole, and Wil- bur Yeager did most of the carrying and Goode made the last 13 yards in three tries for the touchdown. That tied the . score at 6-all. Then Yeager kicked extra point to put Midland ahead 7-6. End J. C. McNeal intercepted a pass deep in Big Spring territory. On the next play Barney Hightower ran the ball to thc two-yard line, but fumbled. Big Spring tried to kick, but Jack Kidwell tackled the kicker back of the goal and gave Midland two more points. MIDLAND 6-ABILENE 27 Midland, Oct. 26. Playing at home the Midland Bulldogs put up a good battle before being defeated by Abi1ene's Eagles, 27-6. The first time the Bulldogs got the ball, they scored. It went like this. Quar- terback Yeager took the snap from the center and lateraled to Fullback Bobby Cole on Midland's thirty-yard line. Cole then passed to Halfback Barney Hightow- er who outran the Abilene secondary for the touchdown. Yeager's attempt to kick the extra point was blocked. Midland held the lead all during thc first quarter. Then in the second quarter Abilene began to score and with Murphey making one touchdown and Terry two, the Eagles went ahead 20-6 at the half. The third period was scoreless, but the Eagles managed to push across another score toward the end of the fourth period. Before a capacity Turkey Day crowd the Lamesa Golden Tornadoes and Mid- land Bulldogs battle to 6-6 tie on Lackey Field. It was the last home game of the season for the Bulldogs. Thrce times early in the lirst quarter Lamesa was put in the shadow ot' its own goal posts by the great kicking ot' Bobby Cole. The tirst kick went out on Lamesa's fire. The next time Midland had to kick it went out on thc three yard line and the third time the ball dropped out on the one. After this last kick. Midland scored with Bobby Drake, although crippled, carrying over from the eight yard line. End J. C. McNeal missed the try tor extra paint. In the third quarter Lamesa drove 65 yards l'or a score with Neiman going over. Both teams tried desperately to score in the last quarter, but tailed and the game ended with Midland completing a pass, Cole to Hightower. ODESSA 48-MIDLAND 0 Odessa. Nov. 29. A crippled, battered. and bruised Mid- land team went to Odessa to play the Dis- trict 3-AA Champions. Midland was with- out its two best pass receivers. and several other players, in bed with the flu. The Bulldogs tried hard but just couldn't win against such great odds. Midland kicked to Odessa. On the first play from scrimmage Townsend sped for an Odessa touchdown. They ran the score up to 48-0 led by Townsend and all-state back J. W. Thompson. Burton Stringer played an outstanding game for Midland and along with Dunny Goode, Bobby Drake, Bobby Cole twho averaged 45-yards per try on his puntsl, Jimmy Edwards and Royce Higgs fWho was starting a game for the first timel.
