00:41 team 444 tie aZd,0e,h,.. V . RESERVE FOOTBALL The Junior Chemic eleven under Coach Bob Stoppert played a seven game sched- ule this year, winning four and losing three. Minus several of last year's key players, the J. V.'s were an impressive, hard fighting team. The J. V.'s defeated the Clare 'B' team 2.5-0. The next week the reserves ventured to Saginaw and won 8-O. The Bay City Handy eleven were the next team to play host to Midland, and the Chemics won 39-7. Mt. Pleasant came to Midland next, and Midland was beaten, 6-O. Arthur Hi1l's I..umberjacks proved to be too mighty for the fighting reserves, and they lost 36-ZZ.. Alma was beaten next by Midland, 20- 15. The Wolves of Bay City Central ended the season for the J. V.'s, and Bay City won 33-O. Schedule opp. M. VARSITY FOOTBALL A hard fighting, inexperienced Midland Chemic eleven got off to a slow start by losing, 40-7, to a fine Bay City Central team. Midland came back the following week to lose a heart-breaker to Alpena, 13- 12. Owosso, who had dropped from the Saginaw Valley League, outclass- ed the hard fighting Chemic eleven by 33-7. The Homecoming game was lost to Bay City Handy, Z1-19. After losing the four first games the Kuickmen battled stubbornly, but lost to Saginawl-ligh, 13-0. Mid- land fianlly hit the victory trail, de- feating Grand Rapids Creston 19-0. The Chemics were successful in beating Hamtramck, Z6-6. Grand Rapids Central abruptly ended the the short victory streak by defeating Midland 7-6. The Chemics ended on a high note by defeating a highly rated Saginaw Arthur Hill team, 8- 6. Tom Shaffner, on the run. 0awcLfwZ, atep lg awp... CROSS COUNTRY The 1951 Cross Country team won four and lost four meets. Charles Temple was our number one man for the season. Chuck broke the school record for the two mile run run in 11:02 minutes. This year brought the promise of another ace cross country runner, Barry Soronen. Twenty six boys reported to Coach Harrold, the largest group ever out for this sport. The team placed 5th in the Has- ting invitational meet and 13th in the state meet.
