Et rnwg Super Foxx of WERC radio in Birmingham emceed and entertained the audience with his wit. Musical entertainment was given by the Soul Seekers and Jane Rice. The judges of the contestants were Jane Rice, the reigning Miss Alabama; Evelyn Merriam of Channel $: and Dr. John Stewart. Chairman of the music department at the University of Moniev-allo. The judges had a very hard time In making decisions. 71

Tta Beauty, Th E crteM a£, hi LlUa The selling was ihe school's gym: ihe lime was February 9 ai 7:30 p.m.: and ihe occasion was ihe annual Miss Queen of Heans. This pageant was ihe most talked about eveni of ihe year. Over ninety girls had ihe chance 10 display pose, character, and beauty. Contestants were chosen in advance by their homerooms or clubs on a basis of popularity and good looks. Each homeroom chose two girls and the clubs chose one girl in both high school and junior high. The contest. sponsored by the band and supervised by Band Director Randall Harwell, is in its second year. 70

Male students and faculty acted as cheerleaders. Proceeds went to the Y-teens monthly service projects. • • UUj The P. T. A. sponsored a Hootenanny as a method of raising funds for school projects. It was a night of laughter, music, and song. There was old-time square-dancing, mountain music, and skits which added up to a wonderful night of entertainment. It is hoped it will become an annual event. 72
