D.B. Qtvukids WonkTfMOA LlUs Fuiwt Ii is the philosophy of the Distributive Education Department that we have the obligation of preparing graduates for gainful employment in marketing. Distributive Education is not offered in lieu of general academic education but grows out of it, due to the need for training in this area. The cooperative method of instruction is the coordination of classroom Instruction with on-the-job learning experiences related to each student’s occupational objective. In the classroom the student acquires competencies needed to succeed in marketing and regular pantime employment enables the student to apply and to test his mastery of these competencies. Cooperative distributive education is offered as a sequential two-year course and is designed to provide students with the kind of training that leads directly to employment in their chosen fields and to utilize their training in holding and advancing on the job. MRS. JAN SUTTON MRS. JAN SUTTON - Received a B.S. from the University of Alabama and an M. A. from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. She is now in her third year of teaching here at Midfield.

' Obfiy Tti Lout' — Looking Wkifeiyplng.’’ MRS. LINDA GILMORE MRS. CHERYL CHAMBERS The Business Education Department serves a two-fold purpose: general business education and vocational education. Generally, the basic business program encourages students to develop skills, understandings, and attitudes that arc necessary for active, intelligent business participation in our society. The vocational curriculum attempts to equip students with entrance level skills and training necessary to secure a livelihood for himself. The introduction of a Business and Office Education (BOE) unit strengthened the Department considerably. These students actively participate in a '‘genuine office atmosphere and learn from doing by using several business machines recently acquired by the Department and by receiving typewriting training. This section of the Department also provides the students with additional practical experiences in language arts and communications. The typewriting section of the Department remains important. Effective communication 1s becoming increasingly necessary for success. The typewriter is universally accepted as an important tool of communication; therefore, most students benefit from basic training in this area. MRS. GILMORE - received B.S. at University of Alabama; teaches B.O.E. MRS. CHAMBERS - received B.S. and M. Ed. at Auburn University: teaches Typing I. 37
