We progressed as the season went ong we played as well as could be expected against rugged competition. -Dennis Coyne is year's soccer team played very well considering the quality of its op- position. The team finished with a final record of 4-13-2. The team lost in the final round of the Monmouth County play-offs after beating Red Bank Catholic and Long Branch, then falling to a tough Red Bank Regional team. Steve Krynicki set a South single season scoring record by putting in six- teen goals. John Givens also led the at- tack with six goals and six assists. Goalie Steve Springsteen finished his career with five shut-outs. The total could have been higher except a late season shoulder injury sidelined him. Debbie Poole broke the sex barrier as she became the first girl to ever play soccer at the varsity level in Shore Conference history. For the first time this year, South played a night game at their own stadium. Even though we lost, the night will be remembered as the night the lights went out. The team showed a lot of class throughout the season. OPPOSITE PAGE - LARGE PICTURE - Bmce Mackey shows amazing ball control as he baffles an opponent.
