The result of that election was 128 votes for and 87 opposed. One room was leased from the elementary school for the use of the high school for S100 annually, and the first teacher, Mr. C.E. Buell, was hired for a salary of S200. The length of the school term was three months. The first three-year high school course of study was introduced in 1890. In Iune of 1903, the town board was ordered to buy a site and build a free High School at a cost not to exceed SB5000. Thirteen years later Industrial Arts courses were added. Increased enrollment made it necessary to begin construction on a new building in 1918. Three acres of land were purchased for S1500 and on May 18 the contract for the new school was awarded for 532,480 Agriculture classes were added to the curriculum in 1941 and the farm shop was constructed the following year. In 1948, parts of the towns of Madison, Spring- field, Berry and Cross Plains and the Village of Cross Plains were annexed to the district. That same year, voters approved a loan of S475,000 for im- proving the present building by remodeling and constructing an addition. An athletic field complete with flood lights was also developed in 1948. Every morning when the clock strikes the hour of nine the students are assem- bled in a large and comodious room which receives light from all sides and is well ventilated. Artificial palms decorate the stage, and a number of large pictures adorn the walls of the room.
