a boudoli a rec Pooi F, ROM the basement of Schardt and the depths of Smith to the sun deck of High Rise and the luxury of University Park, dorm life is the same wonderful, nebulous ball of joy and confusion. Midnight hours in the lobbies and study rooms, bull sessions of twenty boys in the middle of finals, arranging schedules around favorite soap operas and Roadrunner , frosting hair, dance lessons, all-night poker parties, looking for matches, signing in at 12:59:59, having den sessions, helping everybody get ready for wonderful functions, borrowing a roommate ' s pants when you ' ve just split yours on the way to a dance, phones in the John , finding old book reports, never getting a line out on an extension, being afraid the elevator doors won ' t open this time, all this is a part of dorm life. Someone always there to cry to, or scream with, Monday night scouring sessions, a beer-can Christmas tree, no place to park, Girls, please quiet down — especially third floor! Serenades, snowball fights, empty candy machines, and correct change only — a few more meaningful and memorable phrases. A wonderland of joy, sorrow, excitement, tension, and mass hysteria — horrible and fabulous, boring and fascinating, but, above all, an experience worth knowing. 21

Student teaching is more than explaining — it ' s understanding. Education Exists Outside The Classroom Too COLLISION of two societies occurs forming an atmosphere of learning in which we begin to know ourselves, to formulate our ideas, and to find purpose to our lives. The worlds of student and teacher meet on the campus of MTSU in an aura outside that of the classroom. The weary and discouraged student is often uplifted by a casual talk, an informal conference over a cup of coffee, a few minutes before or after class — the extra time and efforts of an already overworked, underpaid, and underrated teacher. These casual hours will be remembered long after the hurry and scurry of other times are forgotten and will be appreciated always. 23
