Voorhies heads the local department for prospective rocket experts, architects, and engineers. The Industrial Arts Department is one of the best equipped in this area, having six unit shops and a drawing studio with thousands of dollars worth of equipment. Home Economics The Home Economics Department progresses under the supervision of Miss Margaret Putman. Girls majoring in Home Economics are ex- posed to new and modern equipment and receive superior training in dress designing, interior decorating, home demonstration work, nutrition, dietetics, textiles, child development, and home furnishings. Living in the modern home living center for one quarter is an attraction to which each of the majors looks forward. Margaret Putman, B.S., M.S. Lucille Estes, B.S., M.A., M.S. Agriculture The purpose of the agriculture department is to offer courses designed to train students interested in teaching agriculture; making a career of practical farming; being employed by the Agricultural Service, Farm and Home Ad- ministration, Soil Conservation Service, and other farm agencies; working for food, feed, seed, fertilizer, and farm equipment companies,- participating more intelligently in the development of higher standards of living in rural areas. Many steps of growth are apparent in this department. It has three build- ings of its own in which are included classrooms, storerooms, offices, a wood-working shop, and a modernly equipped farm metal working and blacksmith shop. A dairy, a poultry unit and various buildings serve as laboratories. Four hundred and seventy-five acres of land are available to this department for the students to experience the actual program of the farm, as well as to earn money to help pay their college expenses.
