Within its pages yon will doubt- less find many things that will make yoti pause for a moment and lose yoiuself in dreams of the days you have just experienced. You will remember how the student body began to increase and ho v the college took on a post var appearance. You will remember the boys drifting in one by one, returning from variotis branches of the service to resiune their education. College life hadn ' t been the same withotu them, and yoti welcomed them back. You will definitely remember how the college retiuned to its wide-scale athletic program and how you rooted ior yoiu- team from the side lines. You can ' t forget binning the midnight oil as you crammed for exams, biting yoiu fingernails in class, nor the Thursday night dances. You vill remember ho v you learned to do without biuter and how you vaited for the mail to arrive each morning. You can ' t forget the color of the lea ' es in the autiunn, the snows that came in the winter and how you walked among the daffodils in the spring. Yes, these things were a part of your life at Middle Ten- nessee State, but foremost in your mind will be those demo- cratic ideals that this institution and its faculty have instilled in you as you sought a bit of knowledge. They will never fade into obscurity but will always remain a vital jjart of your life. In order that you may reminisce and that you may have something to cause you always to cling to Middle Tennessee State as yoin- Alma Mater, the staff offers you this twenty- first volume of the MiDLANDER. Herein are yoin- daydreams— FOREWORD DEDICATION Since the last publication of the Midlaxder peace has come to the world. The student body has welcomed back throughout the year the boys who have returned. He was the incarnation of a romantic conception of ideal love that ennobled the aspirations of hinidreds, wIkjsc lives he touched intimately. He possessed a sensiti e soul that loved richly the good, and abhorred the sham and pretentious people. He was always tolerant of the efforts of those who sought to rise above the common prides and prejudices of little men by looking for the best in lunnan achievement. He strongly deplored the dogmas that bind men to dark houses of decay, where truth eternal stands at bay. Until the very last, his eyes looked for good things to do for others, and things still to lo e and hold! Mayhajj to take away with me— into the night. I HLLMA OvtRCASH, Ptcsidl ' tll Thomas G. Climaxing the season whh a memorable trip to Atlanta to participate in the South eastern AUl ' tournament the Blue Raicler- ettes returned to intercollegiate competition this year with a record of eleven victories and four defeats. Advancing to the semifinals in the AUl ' tournament the Middle Tennessee State College girls were eliminated by the naiionai champion Goldblumes. During the playing season the team de- feated such opponents as the Conners Okla- homa College girls; the CAPers, West Ten- nessee champions; the Atlanta Y.W.C.A.; Camp Forrest; the Naslnille Business College and other outstanding sextettes. Only the Goldblumes defeated the Raiderettes by more than a single point. Naiuy . ikman led the scoring for the team while Captain Betty Hart was a fine door leader and defensive player. Maiy Ann Ziimbro, playing from a guard position, was a constant offensive threat averaging five points each game. Imogenc Queen completed this excellent delensi e trio. Sharing scoring honors with Miss . ikman were Betty Cloyd, Mary Ellen Roberts, and F aye Kent, used interchangeably by Coach Nance Jordan throughout the season. Capable replacement malirial came from the reserves of the scjuad, including fane Brandon, Jacquelyn McMurtry, Jane Bratten, Louise Arnold, Beatrice Thurman, and Sarah Maxwell. RAIDERETTES R I D R For the first time since the season of 1941-42. the Blue Raiders were playing ball again this year as M. T. S. C. ' s first postwar team. With lew of the old letter men back, and with very little experience behind it, the all-veteran scjuad. under the coaching of O. L. Freeman, won its share of the season ' s games. The Raiders got oft to a late start and had a very .short season. During this season the team defeated Austin Peay twice, David Lips- comb, Woodbury, and came up against many other strong teams. Gleason Fra icr and Gene Mclnlire vcrc always in there to take the ball off the back- board while Dave Adamson and .Sam Wilson played a Hashy floor game.
