Middle Tennessee State University LIBRARY I reienled. bu ROBERT ABERNATHT EX LIBRIS ADMINISTRATION THE CLASSES THE ATHLETICS ORGANIZATIONS THE FEATURES NINETEEN HUNDRED FORTY-FOUR I D L A N D E R ■. ' ..1 MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE COLLEGE M U R F R E ES BO RO , TENNESSEE The music in my heart I bore, Long after it was heard no more. That happy days may live again, that memories of Middle Tennessee State College may be rekindled, that friendships formed during school days may last long afterward — this is the purpose of the V)44 Midlander. If these pages serve as a reminder of the days you spent here, and the happiness you knew, then ovn- work has not been in vain. FOREWORD I o that ideal which has become a part of all our lives, because it is our life, we dedicate this jNIidlander. Because we are Americans, because we believe that freedom is our riijhtful heritage, we cherish the way of life that only a freedom-loving people can understand. We lo e the freshness of the new day — the warmth of the sun beating on our backs as we earn our daily bread, as much as we want, the way we want it. We cling to the right to have firecrackers on the P ' ourth of July, and turkey on Thanksgiving, and flowers in May. and Santa Claus at Christmas. We love the quietness of the sum- mer dusk, and the peaceful beating of the rain on the roof that shelters us. These things have shaped our lives: they are the rights of an American, the ideal to which we look with reverence, thankful for the privilege of be(|ueathing it to those who follow us. Through student government we are able to exercise those rights that we feel will be just and most advantageous to tile majority of the people on the campus. The .Associated Student Body was created in the ho])e that all students would participate to the best r)f their ability and that both the students and faculty would work together and bridge the gap tliat often exists between college studies and college activities. Student government oflfers excellent opportunities for free speech and expression of oljinion by the individual.
