STIDEIT BODY Student government presents problems which demand the student himself to arrive at the best solu- tion, and this solution will only materialize when constant effort and hard work have been put forward. The best solution for any problem is for you yourself to accomplish this end by fust a clear analysis, and second by yoiu ' o n iniliati e and determination. .Self-government puis lorih ideals vhich mold personalities with character; get your share, because the world wants men ; ho can do something. Thomas Townes President, A. S. B. The .Associated .Student Body, organized in 1939. includes in its membership all students registered in the college. . year later its constitution was revised to provide for legislative, executive, and judicial blanches which function after the manner of those of oiu ' national s;o ernment. ISSOniTED EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT Left to rig !(— Raikes Slinkard, Attorney General; Ruth Hoover. Secretary: ThO]MA.s Townes. Pmiilent: Ruth Titts- WORTH, J ' ice-Presiflcnt; William Arendale, Treasurer. I he spirit of the Associated .Student Body is that of individual responsibility for, and cooperative support of, the ideals that are in harmony with democracy. Now living in a world where democratic principles are constantly trying to be undermined, we are once again confronted with the ultimate consideration as to whether we wish to preserve the principles for which our forefathers fought or continue to e.xist in a remorseful state of complacency. Com- placency, like indifference, is the easiest route that a person may take. This is the chief problem that has confronted us since the beginning of student government. With refusal to participate and help promote interests, this will be an inevitable foe of democratic principles, . ccept your responsibility and work for definite purposes. Here on the campus we probably get our first taste of self-governimnt. and e must accept this responsibility with inlensions of a personal benefit— a benefit which l uilds laiih and respec I lor our fellow men, self-control and reliabilit in ihe ihinss we encounter.
