ROW 3, G. Debaters Probe Problems PARTICIPATION IN DEBATES and speech tournaments on the local. state. and district levels filled the agenda of the members of the Yational Forsenic League. The year opened with area student congresses which led up to the state congress. Jackson won the Sweepstakes Trophy at the area congress. For two practice debates and a varsity debate. jack- son's NFL played host to other schools. The debate team had to travel to some tour- naments. At Tulane Lniversitv in Yew Orleans. Jackson placed a finalist in the extemporaneous speaking contest. A practice tournament at Sara- sota. Florida. and the Southern Speech Tournament at Wake Forest Liniversity. North Carolina. were two events in which the debate team participated. Jacksons calendar which the NFL puts out served as the source of money from which they sponsored their trips. I3 9 One must be an honor student to qualify for membership in the National Forsenic League.
