Physics and chemistry, taught by Mr. Marschall, awakened an interest in the development of all science in relation to modern life. Biology teaches students to adjust themselves to their environment. All sophomores were required to take this subject under Miss Rusch. General Science, introduced to all freshmen by Mr. Wallace, serves as a basis for all related subjects. The Vandals lost to Bisbee, Tempe, and Superior, who were considered the best of the Class B teams in the state. The team out- scored their opponents 200 to 79 points and generally outplayed and outfought their toes. Miami 0 Tempe 19 The Tempe Buffaloes, playing inspired football, handed the Vandals their first defeat of the season on October l0. Cacho Perez start- five went awry in the first quar- te downed the ball behind the goal for automatic safety. The Miami tally Salcines charged over after Conniff 20 yards, and Rodriguez had rr l gains. Miami 'I4 Bisbee 20 The Pumas edged the Vandals 20-14 on October 24 at Bisbee. Miami scored first when Salcines went over from the one yard line. Bisbee came back with a stunning air at- tack and scored with only l2 seconds left in the half. Bisbee's next two touchdowns came on line bucks from the one foot line and the five yard line, respectively. Peterson broke into the Puma backfield and intercepted a lateral then galloped 30 yards to score. Rodriguez kicked both extra points for Miami. Miami 12 Duncan 0 Miami preserved its undefeated record in the Eastern Conference by defeating the Dun- can Wildkats l2-O. The first Vandal score came on a 55 yard return of a punt by Conniff. Rodriguez, who had taken over at fullback when Salcines dislocated a shoulder, carried over from the one yard line for the second score. Miami 0 Superior 7 The Vandals received their third defeat, 7-O, at Superior on November 7. Miami held the Panthers scoreless for 23 minutes and 50 seconds, but Superior pushed across the win- ning touchdown in the last second of the half. The second pair of quarters failed to produce any scoring. Miami 51 Phoenix Technical School 0 The Vandals swamped- the Phoenix Tech Hornets 5l-0 at Phoenix on November l4. Mireles opened the scoring in the first quarter, and Bergmann and Rodriguez followed suit in the second period. Conniff caught Bergmann's Pass for a TD then carried over himself for an- other. Rodriguez charged across for the next marker followed by Conniff with another. Coach Cole pulled the first strino, and Virgil Valen- tine proceeded to gallop 90 yards for the sev- enth Miami tally. The final score came in the last period when Armendariz heaved to Arduen- go in the end zone. A pass from Bergmann to Mireless accounted for the first extra point, Conniff booted one and Arduengo kicked the other. Miami 7 Globe 0 The Vandals completed the football season undefeated in Eastern Conference play by a 7-O win over the Globe Tigers. The lone touchdown of the exciting game came midway through the first period when Mireles recovered a Globe fumble on the Tiger -five yard line then grabbed Conniff's pass for the score. Co-Captain Rodri- guez kicked the extra point. The game was close throughout, featured by long runs and intercepted passes by both sides. The Vandals threatened the Tiger lair several times but could not muster the necessary scoring punch. Globe once reached the Vandal five yard line before losing the ball on downs. The purpose ot these courses was to produce correct driver attitude and sound driving practices. The two classes were operated under the American Automobile Association, who also set up the tests. The theory course was taught by Miss Rusch. Mr. Wallace and Mr. Lane handled the "behind the wheel" instruction. At the close ot the course the students had to pass stand- ardized tests.
