FHA underwent a face-lift this year changing its name, pushing for a larger member- ship, continuing to tantalize tastebuds with conch fritters, and making puppets for chil- dren and hospitals at Christ- mas. Members worked on an in- school service project for a program covering two hundred years of Black American His- tory. They plan to catalog it in the media center for future classes. HERO cooks up successful year Eront Row- Terry Smart, Priscilla Pierce, Jorge Ybem, Iohnnie Hill, Barbara johnson. Row 2 - Darcia Brown, Shirley Robinson. Row 3 - Sponsor Ms. Grace Aikens, Gregory Crum, Artie King, Sylvia Wade, Daisy Pittman, Lan'y Smith, Peggy Iackson, Cathy Walthour. What made HERO's bake sales unique and delicious? They prepared all the food themselves in class on the day of the sale. All members prepared for careers in food service and received experience in jobs like head cook, dishwasher, waitress, waiter and food preparation. They supplemented on the job training with class- room study and practice. They planned and made meals both themselves and for an Assistant Principals' meeting here at MCC. For Easter, they made and served a luncheon for resi- dents at Sunland. CBE - OK! CBE students attend school in the morning and workin the afternoon in office positions. They gain valuable experience before finish- ing high school and get a head start on careers in the business world. In addition, CBE stu- dents belong to Cooperative Education Clubs of Florida - club designed to develop leader- ship qualities and skill in competition. In District 10 Competition, CBE won four trophies: Soraida Garcia - 1st Place Job Interview Martha Martinez - 2nd Place Pub- lic Speaking, Clara Machado -5th Place Poster, and the entire group 2nd Place Bicen- tennial Skit. In March CBE attended the State Leadership Conference and brought back a first place trophy in public speaking. CBE gained more recognition at MCC when they won 1st Place for Homecoming with their clever Bicentennial decorations.
