In these courses students attain a greater understanding of other countries by learn- ing the language as a key to the culture. A study of languages in high school often inspires students to become linguists, archaeologists or diplomats. At Beach High, the language teachers encourage proficiency by awarding a medal to the top students in each year of a language and a gold medal to the best all around language student.
