McCray l,llfLlTENANT McCray serves as Weapons Depart- ment llead aboard MIQYERKORD. He is responsible for the three divisions which make up the Weapons De- partment: WA, WG and First. Lt McCray graduated from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. xx here he majored in Marketing. He was commissioned on February 27. IQ76, Past commands of Lt McCray include USS KENNEDY CCV-673, USS AUSTIN tLPH--ll and the Fleet Training Unit in Little Creek, Virginia. Lt McCray is also a graduated of the Officers Candidate School, Surface Warface Officers School and the Tactical Action Officer Course. On MEYERKORD Lt. McCray is qualified asa CDO. TAO, and as OOD, HIS GOAL IN THE NAVY IS TO SUCCESSFUL- LY COMPLETE AT LEAST 20 YEARS OF DISTIN- GUISHED NAVAL SERVICE. ., all Al' -' dpi st, . l Ltjg Harold S. Kopperud LIEUTENANT JUNIOR GRADE KOPPERUD serves as Department Head for the SUPPLY DEPART- MENT aboard MEYERKORD. He's responsible for a total of 37 people which include the MS's, SK's, SH's and DK's. Ltjg Kopperud is a graduate of WILLAMETTE UNIVERSITY in Salem, Oregon and FRANKLIN COLLEGE in Lugano, Switzerland, at which he ma- jored in History. He was commissioned February 8, l98l. As a Department Head, Ltjt Kopperud is in overall charge of the four supply divisions with emphasis placed on STORES AND FOOD SERVICE. His collateral duties include, Monies Audit Board, Helicopter Control Officer, Food Service Officer. and Special Service Offi- cer, Ltjg Kopperud is qualified as an inport OOD and assistant CDO. Ltujg Kopperud past duties have included Sales Officer, Disbursing Officer and Mess Caterer. t Lt James J. George LIEUTENANT GEORGE serves as Department Head of Navigation aboard the MEYERKORD. Navigation is the smallest Department aboard yet one of the most important, The department includes Admin. Navigation and Medical. He re- ceived his commission on March 14, 1980 and is a graduate of Temple University, where he majored in Political Science. As the Department Head his collatered duties include: Administration Officer, Postal Officer, Welfare and Recreation Fund Custodian. and member of theCom- mand Training Team. Lt George is quali- fied aboard as OOD, EOOW CEngineering Officer of the Watchl, CDO and Lt George is also Surface Warfare Qualified.

He is the Anti- Submarine Officer and Education- al Services Officer. He is also a graduate of Naval Surface War- fare Officers School and ASW Of- ficers School. LT James E. Griswold Lieutenant Griswold is serving on his second ship since being com- missioned in 1979, after graduating from Washington State University. His present duties include Combat Information Center Officer and Electronic Warfare Officer. Lt. Griswold spent two previous years aboard USS TAKELMA QATF- 1131 as First Lieutenant and Weapons Officer. Ltjg Jose G. Gutierrez Lieutenant Junior Grade Gutier- rez, a graduate ofthe University of Texas, E1 Paso majoring in crimi- nal justice and business was com- missioned in 1981. He is the Elec- tronic Material Officer and Legal Officer. Prior to entering college, he was an electronics Warfare Technician in the US Air Force from 1973-1977. LT Werner F. Hoyt Lieutenant Hoyt, a graduate of the University of Oklahoma major- ing in areospace engineering was commissioned in 1980. He is the A8LE Division Officer, Safety Offi- cer, Magnetic Silencing Officer, Vibration and Monitoring Officer and FZ Maintenance Officer. He previously served as an electrician from 1973-1976 when he was se- lected for the NESEP program to attend college. He has also served as the Navigator and Electrical Of- ficer ofthe USS WORDEN QCG- iso.
