Ziff 60429 C41 Commander William D. Center, U.S. Navy Commanding Officer Commander Center was born in Dayton, Ohio in 1945. He attended high school and college in Los Angeles, California prior to entering the United States Naval Academy. Following his graduation and commissioning in 1968, he was assigned to USS HENRY W. TUCKER QDD-8751. After attending Destroyer School in 1970, he served as Chief Engineer on USS GURKE KDD-7831. ln December 1972, he assumed command of USS EXPLOIT QMSO-4401. This tour was followed by assignment as Executive Officer in USS BLANDY QDD-9433. He was awarded a Master of Public Administration degree by thc University of Washington in 1978 and was subsquently assigned as Chief Staff Officer, Destroyer Squadron THIRTY- THREE. Prior to assuming command of MEYERKORD in August 1982, Commander Center was assigned to the Strategic Concepts Group COP-6035, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. Commander Center has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal twith combat V J the Meritorious Service Medal and the Navy Commendation Medal. He is married to the former Karla Stoup, of Los Angeles, California and they have two sons, David and Steven.

5 4,-f 'nl' 4-anna-ur -Q lie 4, . 1 t W., 4 Commander Arthur G. Teves, U.S. Navy Executive Officer Commander Teves is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, class of 1969. He received his appointment to the Academy in 1965 from the state of Hawaii. His first tour of duty was aboard the USS O'BANNON, homeported at Pearl Harbor and then on the USS SAMPLE tFF-10483. After making a Westpac on each of his first two ships, he was assigned as Executive Officer of the USS ILLUSIVE tMSO-4483 in Long Beach, CA. He then attended Destroyer Department Head School at Newport, Rl after which he went to the USS COOK KFF-1083i as the Operations Officer. After a Westpac on the COOK, Commander Teves was assigned as a Combat Systems Instructor at Surface Warfare Officers Basic School, Coronado, California. He returned to sea duty as Combat Systems Officer for COMDESRON 31, where he was embarked on USS ELLIOT tDD-9673 for deployment to the lndian Ocean as part of the USS RANGER Battle Group in 1979. Commander Teves attended the Naval Postgraduate school at Monterey, CA. where he received his Masters Degree and designation as a Naval Intelligence subspecialist. Commander Teves has been the Executive Officer of the Meyerkord since January, 1983. His awards include the Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Battle Efficiency Award and other awards citing his service in Southeast Asia and the lndian Ocean. Commander Teves is married tothe former Elizabeth Radich of Honolulu, Hawaii. The Teves, have four children, a daughter.
