V COMMANDER EDWARD 5. FINN, USN COMMANDING OFFICER Commander Finn. a native of California. graduated from the University of Wash- ington in l96l. He went on to attend Officer Candidate School in Newport. Rhode Island and upon completion in February I962 was commissioned an Ensign. His first duty assignment was USS SHIELDS lDD-5969 homeported in San Diego. California. After serving on USS REEVES tDlG-241 Commander Finn attended Naval Destroyer School and graduated in July of l966, In the years to follow Commander Finn served aboard various naval vessels including USS HARWOOD QDD-86l 7 as Engineering Officer. USS TOPEKA QCLG-SJ as Main Propulsion Assistant. and USS WABASH QAOR-59 as Engineering Officer. Prior to his arrival aboard MEYERKORD. he served as Executive Officer aboard USS LEAHY QCG- l67. On August 2. l98O Commander Finn was assigned as Commanding Officer of USS MEYERKORD LFE-IOSSJ midway through Westpac 80 deployment. Commander Finn's shore duty included assignments to the Bureau of Naval Per- sonnel. MAAG Republic of China. and CINCPACFLT Staff in Pearl Harbor. Hawaii. In his I9 years of service. Commander Finn has been awarded the Navy Achieve- ment Medal. the Navy Commendation Medal. the Joint Service Commendation. and the Meritorious Service Award. Commander Finn is married to Nancy N. Anthony and has two sons. Brian 8 and Kevin 5. presently residing in Coronado. California.

COMMANDER FREDRICK JOSEPH VOI.I.MAR, JR., USN COMMA NDING OFFICER Commander Frederick J. Vollmar. Jr. is a native of Milwaukee. Wisconsin where he graduated from Marquette University and received his commission in June, l962. Upon commissioning. he served aboard USS INTREPID QCVS-l lj as Fire Control Officer until I964. He subsequently reported to USS GRIDLEY QCG-llj where he served as CIC Officer until l966 making three deployments to the Western Pacific in support of U.S. Seventh Fleet operations. During the next two years Commander Vollmar served as Operational Control Center Officer on the Staff of Commander Naval Forces Philippines. In March. l969 Commander Vollmar returned to sea serving aboard USS VOGE CFF- I047j as Weapons Officer. ln September I97O. he reported to the Supervisor of Shipbuild- ing Conversion and Repair. Newport News, Virginia as Assistant for Weapons and Combat Systems Test Officer. Commander Vollmar was next assigned to the Military Assistance Advisory Group. Ethiopia in Ethiopia. Following this tour in March I975. he reported as Executive Officer on USS BRADLEY CFF-lO4I7. He has just completed a twenty-seven month tour as the Chief Staff Officer for Commander Destroyer Squadron NINE involved with the Pacific Fleet introduction of DD-963 Class and PHM-I Class new construction ships. Commander VolImar's awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Services Commendation Medal. Navy Commendation Medal. Navy Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Citation with two Bronze Stars. National Defense Service Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars. Commander Vollmar and his wife. the former Margaret Mary Dwyer of Milwaukee. Wisconsin. have one son. Michael. and they reside in San Diego. California.

Receiving his commission in October of l967. LCDR Hammond was assigned to USS BOSTON CCA-692 He then served as Assistant CIC Officer aboard USS KITTY HAWK CCVA-635 from l97O through l97I making Western Pacific deployments aboard both ships. In I97I he reported to Naval Aviation Technical Training Center. Glynco. Georgia as a Naval Tactical Data Sys- tems instructor. USS ALBANY CCG- IOJ was his next assignment serving as CIC Officer from May I975 to Dec. I976. followed by a tour as weapons officer aboard USS SPRUANCE fDD963b. From .lune I978 to September l979 he attended Naval Post- graduate School. Monterey. California. He has been executive officer since February l980. LCDR Hammond's awards include the Navy Achievement medal, the Navy Unit Commendation. the Battle Efficency award. the Vietnam Gallantry Cross. and other awards citing his service in Vietnam and Anartica. LCDR Hammond is married to Mary Lee Hill of North Tazwell. Virginia. They have three daughters. Tania I6. Tammy IS. and Pamela 8.
