Weapons Firing The key to success in any endeavor ig regular, dilligent practice. Weapon's systems accuracy is no exception. Whether off singly, launching our exercise torpedoes and ASROC at consenting submarines or massed with the squadron, gun and missle batteries firing to hit a distant surface target, safety and precision are our goals. While operating in the Indian Ocean in April the squadron engaged in an impressive firepower display, using an abandoned lifeboat as a target. After standing off at ten miles for missle shots by USS john S. McCain KDDG-361, the squadron closed to take the boat under five inch gunfire. After the big guns were silenced Meyerkord moved in to sink the boat with a .50 caliber machine gun. M ., f tfrf r ni .
