Basketball 50005 A if' Kneelmg left to rxght followmg the M L Zxmmerman H Boken R Herrmg J Stelder R Brodt VS Bachman J Seckler J Wnltz E Schlabach H Neumann J Z1mmerman P Schrock R Mlshler J Frles Roy Larson Asslstant Coach Walter Laxtas Manager Glen H oc k e n b u r y Wxth a 12 7 regularly scheduled game record for the season and a total games played record of 16 11 the Metamora Redbxrds enjoyed another successful basketball season The 1950 51 team was led by Capta1n Harold Nuemann who was the leadlng scorer and rebounder Neumann was ably ass1sted m both of these departments by Jlm Wxltz Other members of the flrst f1ve were Paul 'Dead eye Schrock playmaker and clutch player for the B1rd1es Gene Schlabach the man who was usually out 1n front on the fast breaks and .hm Zxmmerman a scrappy hard worklng team man wlth a good shot from the left slde and out m front Front l1ne reserves were .hm Seckler and Duck Mlshler Other members of the varlsty squad were Ray Brodt Jack Frles and W1ll1s Bachman Gradu atmg semors were Neumann Schrock Schlabach and Zxmmerman The hxghllghts of the season were the wmmng of the Metamora Dlstrlct Tournament and the two w1ns agamst St Bede The Redblrd team reached 1ts peak nn the champ1onsh1p game of the D1str1ct ln whlch they blasted Benson 54 41 The team won f1ve of 1ts last s1x games The team s best defensxve game of the season was played agamst Benson for the D1str1ct champ1onsh1p the best offenswe game was played agamst St Bede at Peru As IS to be expected the team played xts best basketball when team sp1r1t was good Harry Neumann s 34 pomts scored xn the Roanoke game at Metamora was the largest 1nd1v1dual Scorxng mark made by any player ln any game ln whlch the Redblrds part1c1pated About flV9 or s1x of the games lost thxs year can be charged to the poor team shootzng per centage lower than 20 per cent 1n some cases The 1950 51 Metamora I-hgh basketball team was one of whlch the Metamora fans and players can be justly proud The team was ably coached by Mr Larson who completed h1s thlrd year here lt IS to be hoped that next year s team whlch wxll probably be made up of the slx non graduatmg varsxty squad and members ofthe Freshmen Sophomore team can maxntam the fme record made thxs year The Freshman Sophomore team coached by Mr Laltas ended the season w1th a 6 12 record The .Tumor varslty won one and lost one , 'F 3 V All 1 AX X ' Q, ' K ID ' K A ,E ' - X X - , 1.4 n I, ' 2 oo L " ' ' x f 1 I A A 13 V.
