Senior Class History
On September 3 1947 the doors of MTHS opened for the largest class ever enroll
ed up to that tlme Th1s class was composed of 51 freshmen who elected for tts offxcers
Eugene Schlabach presrdent James Zlmmerman v1ce presldent and Robert Rohman
secretary treasurer Jackle Kaufman and Harold Neumann were student counc1l repre
sentatwes Mxss McClure and Mlss Brucker were the class adv1sers
Colette Bachman was selected as the 1947 Freshman Homecommg Queen Candxdate
The Pnm Skatmg Rlnk was the scene of the flrst class party
Wlth Robert Chllcot as presldent the class of 1951 began 1ts second year m h1gh
school Assnstmg Bob were Paul Schrock v1ce presxdent and Colette Bachman secre
tary treasurer Mary Lee Noe and James Zlmmerman served as representatlves to the
Student Councxl Mary Lou Kmg a transfer from Peorra Woodruff was the only new
member durmg t.he sophomore year
The fxrst class party as sophomores was a hayrack r1de and a wemer roast The
Englxsh I1 class took a trxp to the Apollo Theater m Peorxa to see Hamlet Agaln a

Upon enterlng thelr .Tumor year James Zrmmerman was chosen as class pres1dent
Robert Rohman vxce presldent and Marletta Schnelder secretary treasurer Student
Councxl representatxves were Colette Bachman Phyllls Schumacher and Paul Schrock
Mr Hlres and Mr Larson were class advxsors
Norma Hagaman a transfer student from Manual and Stewart Herron a transfer
from Hope Arkansas Jomed the class to make 49 members Although xt was ramy and
muddy everyone enjoyed a hayrack rxde and theater party at Washlngton ln the fall
One of the blggest prolects of the Jumor year was the presentatlon of the class play
the Pulxtzer Prlze wmnmg play The Skln of Our Teeth by Thornton Wllder Another
and track meets as a means of ra1s1ng funds The class sponsored several square dances
after the basketball games As the chmax of the Jumor year the group honored the Sen
lors wlth the annual banquet on Aprll 29 It was held ln the hlgh school audltorlum and
was followed by a prom m the gym whxch was open to the pubhc
In the fall of 1950 forty f1ve of the orlgmal flfty one members enrolled to form the
Semor Class of 1951 Gene Flsher left ln December to make xt forty four For fmal
class leaders Harold Neumann was elected presldent Phyllxs Schumacher vlce presl
dent and Clyde Parshall secretary treasurer Student Councll representatlves chosen
were Paul Schrock Alan Vlelte and Phyllls Grebner Mlss Brucker Mlss Helton and
Mr Brown were class advlsors
The many aCtlVltleS of the Semor Class kept every member busy Homecommg
whlch lS sponsored by the Semors was very successful due to the untlrmg efforts put
forth by the class At the Homecomlng dance Elleen Grebner was c rown ed Queen
Colette Bachman Phyllls Grebner and Allce Seckler all Semors were her attendants
The Perfect ldlot a s1de spl1tt1ng comedy was one of the blggest class achleve
ments Several fxeld trxps were taken durlng the year one bemg a trlp ln the sprmg to

ln the sprlng the Class chose 1ts motto Now we llft the anchor Set sa1l for ports
unknown and 1ts class colors Blue and Sxlver
The excltmg and fast movmg Semor year qulckly drew to a close amld a flurry of

Commencement on Thursday May 31 A fmal memory of the days at MTHS was the class
