We hope 4 that the students of Mesquite High as a Whole and as individuals will continue to move forward for a better school and a better World. This book contains the face of Mesquite High School in 1968. We hope that each one who turns the pages will remember the many moments of the past year. Let us do the remembering, the looking back, for you in this yearbook, while you progress toward the future. 1 .f If ' 'uwlf Q fr Q Q7 QV '- 14 2 1' WL' v-L, uf , M .. 4 , 4 n ., Q. hw.. fr 1 rf ,f w M f x F' I' 'Q . 35 af 2 ' N H 2, Q Q v f 4 Eh Hn ' ff' I-We 15 Q2 Qian.--mg M335 A 5 1 u '- w ww m.u.w....,--and-P-mfma M mg' if A3 mir s ' I , 1, and 'aw M.-was-:,.., ' mu'-?mgmfsAv mm W. ,. mg, kwxmumm, Hk9'im 34f-nwgygmmwmam, 1mmm?wEf.y1Ug5vn'35:!f'Q'.'f,,g ww ... fr mixes-:vu-w,n nmifkgmwm A mQK5 23351592 gr' H 'mg M 'mm' NW Ha1?mmw-TIW NM mtfw wmma W' 'W' svrsfmgwwa 4.911 E,M 'iulmawuw has Elan-u........'T. miiirmurmmwwv rf We Dedicate the 1968 Mesquite-0 to Mrs. Marie Avery Mrs. Avery is known to most of her students as 'cSeiora Profesoraf, She teaches her Spanish classes with enthusiasm and interest. More than her brilliant knowledge of the language, however, the Spanish students remember her pleasant smile and mild tempera- ment. Outside the classroom, Mrs. Avery takes on the task of a Student Council sponsor. She has worked hard with this organization, helping students with the activities and affairs of a student government. Mrs. Avery is also a counselor to her students as a class or as an individual. Because she possesses the qualities of a great teacher, and because she has used them so well, we proudly dedicate this yearbook to Mrs. Marie Avery. In Memoriam MR. WALTER FLOYD Mr. Walter Floyd, assistant superintendent in charge of the elementary schools, died on October 10 from a heart condition. Mr. Floyd had been with the Mesquite School System for ll years. During that time he rose from teacher to principal of M. B. Lamar to assistant superintendent. Those who knew Mr. Floyd personally were greatly saddened by his death. His presence will be sorely missed by all. MISS GRACE NADINE BROWN Tragedy struck in Mesquite during the rush-hour on November 9 when this 15-year-old Mesquite High School sophomore, Grace Nadine Brown, was killed as a train slammed into the car in which she was a passenger. Miss Brown was a new student to Mesquite and to Mesquite High School. She was a member of the marching band and was wel-liked by those who knew her. All of the student body of Mesquite was saddened by her death, and she will be missed by many. 5 2 l'I W .5 ww, MH ffwwf' Nm QMS mmf 2 wp, www x 1-rms ' ,ffm M2 aM iw K rfieswiya Y ' W g V wr w L w Assistant Superintendents X -Y WB! The ROTC was awarded a special honor rating which is very good for a first year group and the award should be held with pride by all. Also, the Corps' first year had been exciting to all who participated. Mesquite High School was fortunate to have a Rifle Drill Team that was very well organized and performed with pride, dignity, and honor. The Corps is a large, and important organization in the school. We of the 1968 Mesquite-O staff salute 'the Reserve Officers Training Corps in its first year and for proving the school motto of Progress . raining Corps Progress Said Good for '68 Cadet Corps We are pleased with the progress of the cadet corps , said Colonel George Cooper, recalling the events of ROTC's initial year. The ROTC has participated in several competitions this year such as the 4th Army Marksmanship Rifle Matches and Drill team Competition and a Dallas area Drill Team competition. The Mesquite ROTC plans to continue participation in these and other activities next year. ROTC Cadets Drill Through First Year Ken Smith and Claude Stevens go through the paces of a rifle drill. The sergeant seems to be giving our cameraman a leery look. Could our photographer be up for the draft? Sergeant Price demonstrates the care and handling of a rifle, the cadet's best friend. Col. Cooper inspects the company and seems to be pleased with his troops. These cadets practice to become expert marksmen in order that they can receive their marksmanship medal. 2 I-9 Football Lions Siungg Skeefers Win The Fighting Skeeters won Then but a. few minutes la their first and last game of the Mike Perkins was called for season by defeating the R.
