Haley Tops Black Heritage Week 977 Mesa's Black Student Union is a club designed to suit the needs of students in the study of Black Culture. The second week of every February is nationally proclaimed Black Heritage Week. During this week, schools all over the nation present items on Black history and culture. Mesa is no different. The BSU Week commenced with a opening program with general information about the following week. Poetry readings and Afro - dance were Tuesday highlights. William Moseley, MCC alumnus and TV 3 newscaster, was the stellar attraction Wednesday, as he pre- sented interesting poetry readings and dramatic cuttings. Gospel music filled the air as many choirs from the Phoenix area sang songs in celebration of Blacks and Religion. Thursday, at Phoenix College, the Reverend Jesse Jackson preached stirringly on the challenge of Roots To culminate this exciting week, widely acclaimed Roots author, Alex Haley spoke at Mesa High School about his life and writings of Roots This was part of the Night People Fourm Series. Because the demand was so great, Mr. Haley spoke again Saturday in the MCC gymansium. ORGANIZATIONS - 23
