The Mesa Community College Thunderbird volleyball team became the first women's athletic squad to cap- ture a National Championship when they came back from Miami, Florida, with the winner's trophy. Missing a perfect season in ,IC play with only 1 loss during the entire campaign, the T-Birds ended up at 28 and 1. The T-Birds took it all by defeating Grossmont, California 15 to 4-, 10 to 12 ftime expiredj, and 15 to 12. The win was a total team effort, with everyone on the squad playing outstanding volleyball. In the age of individual stars Coach Lynn Bedford refused to single out any one player as doing more than her teammates. On their return from the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women tournament the T-Birds were greeted by scores of fans at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. The T-Birds were later feted at a victory banquet at Dobson Ranch Country Club. Karen Webb, Lisa Lyon, Linda Heberling, Janet Germain, Danelle Richards, Kari Pew, Nan Markham, Wendy Eaton. I thank the staff for its helpful and Dr. McLaughlin, our patient adviser, for his imm, surable contributions. The production of this yearbook provided me with new insights into the time span we call now. We are living in a unique era. No other w ever be like ours. I feel blessed by all the avenues of discovery opened to me. I hope we never forget to reflevt on our past, as it will always 1 part of our present, and future. Embrace this era: touch. experiencejand learn. In the words of author Henry Van Dyke: Use what talents you possess: The woods would be silent ifrzo birds sang except those that sang best.
