Pmefere by Gilbert and Sullivan The Pffetes of Penzance J MCC 's Blue Machine The Blue Machine MCC's marching band was chosen from a field consisting of top high schools and university bands to appear at the Sunkist Bowl, November 24 in Yuma. The band made a short tour beginning the 24th, per- forming at the Sunkist Bowl and then traveling on to San Diego where they performed at Sea World and the San Diego Zoo. Following their Sunday concerts they were guests of both Sea World and the Zoo and enjoyed the attractions for free. Sunday night the band held a banquet in San Diego where awards were presented to outstanding band members. The band appeared at nine regular season football games and practiced its marching drills daily under the direction of Mr. Don Bothwell and his assistant Grant Wolf. Drum Major Valeele Maluia of Kingman led the band on the field and in the stands as they entertained MCC spec- tators. e Twirlers Colletta Sallee, a sophomore from Phoenix' East High, and Barb Wesler, a freshman from Tempe's McClin- tock High, added glamor to the band's performances with routines with fire batons and capes. The Blue Machine enjoyed a year that tested its en- durance, dedication, and gained notoriety for itself, thanks to its Sunkist Bowl appearance. 5 sr 'Nix 'Sf E' , V- g l!
