'1 fxqgn 313 a dean's message with the publication of this yearbook the students of the mesa college ex- tension will have realized another 'first' in the accomplishments of this college. Congratulations are in order for those who have worked so faithfully to make this book possible. this has beenapioneer effort and, as in all pioneer projects, there has been a closeness of feeling that will long be remembered. the significance of this yearbook will increase as future student bodies retrace the steps that were bravedby those who are in the first graduating class. the college experiences that are portrayed in this book should help one to improve those skills which are so important for living in a democracy - among which are the ability to think for oneself, skill in human relations, and a willingness to accept responsibility for one's own actions. in creating the mesa college extension the maricopa county governing board has brought these college experiences within the reach of a much larger number of citizens who should be, and are, very grateful. many of you in this first graduating class will go on to ea.rn higher degrees of academic achievement. some will not have this opportunityg however, all will have gained benefits from your experiences here which should help you to realize a higher degree of individual achievement that otherwise would not have been possible. to each of you go my best wishes for your success and happiness in the years ahead.
