EDWARDS Commander Micheal Bruce EDWARDS was born in Oakland, Californiag on March 9, 1943. He attended Stanford University and Received his Bachelor ol Arts degree in History. He subsequently received his Master's degree in Public Administration from National University and a Master of Arts degree in International Relations from Salve Regina College. After attending Officers Candidate School at Newport Rhode island. he was commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy in December 1965. Commander EDWARDS' first assignment was as Operations Officer for Mine Squadron ELEVEN in Long Beach, Californiag followed by a tour as Assistant Officerin Charge of Minesweeping Boat Detachment ALFA, Republic of Vietnam. He subse- quently served as Combat information Center Officer aboard USS BUCHANAN tDDG-frli and Administrative Officer for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton. Washington. Following his augmentation into the regular component of the US Navy. Commander EDWARDS served tours as Weapons Officer on both USS BRlNKLEY BASS tDD-8875 and USS ORLECK fDD-8865. Reporting to Surface Warfare School Detachment Coronado, California: he served in the capacity of Academic Director pri0f to tours as Executive Officer on USS HALEAKALA fAE-251 and Naval Recruiting District Buffalo. New York: where he succeeded to his first command. He is the second Commanding Officer of USS MERRIMACK fAO-1795. Commander EDWARDS has been decorated with the Bronze Stan Combat Actiorl Ribbon, and the Navy Commendation Medal, and has received thefollowing campaign and service medals: Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation f3i. Vietnam Service Ribbon, Vietnam Civil Action, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Vietnam Gallantry, National Defense. and Sea Service Ribbon. Commander EDWARDS is married to Sandra Nichols EDWARDS and has three children. Stephanie Ann, Meghan Patricia, and Jacqueline Nichols. They reside tri Bethesda, Maryland.
