LCDFI BABCOCK RMC HUGHES osi isvvi ARMSTEAD SM1 TSWJ CONNOLLY Operation Officer OPERATIONS FlMl HOWEFITON DEPARTMENT Operations Department consists of Signalmen, Radiomen, Electronic Technicians, and Operations Specialist. Signalmen serve as assistants to the ship navigators. They use visual signalsg ie flashing lights, flag hoist, and semaphore to communicate with other ships. Radiomen operate the ship's radio communications systems. They transmit and re- ceive messages lor fast, accurate communications, linking together naval activities on ship, shore and OS2 CUNNINGHAM if in the air. Electronic Technicians are responsible forthe routine care and repair of radars, communi- cations and navigation electronic equipment. The Operations Specialist man Combat information Center lClCl-the ship's nerve center. They undergo a daily routine consisting of surveillance radar operations. communications and contact identification at sea. J
