Mothers of Mercy Guild are combinations of hostess, nurse, businesswoman, chef de cuisine, chauffeur, guardian angel and fairy godmother. Besides manning the office or the controls of the family car when needed and doing the million little things that only mothers remember to do, Guild members sponsored events to advance the scholarship fund and payments on chapel furnishings The officers' Silver Tea and other freshmen mothers feel at home while . the annual Fall Luncheon and Fashion Show enabled veteran members to be models for a day. Artistic members displayed original centerpieces at a dessert-tea in November, then turned their hands to cake baking and serving for their husbands and daughters at the annual Sweetheart Party. Thirty mothers enrolled in a Red Cross first aid course, geared to civilian defense, and both mothers and dads attended a Guild-sponsored Cana Conference in February. Fifteen brides were reported as well as fifteen alumnae in the Mercy novitiate. The first dance, january 18 at Bermuda Palms, San Rafael, was a dream of the board come true.
