lbistorv of '98. HE Class of '98 is a pecufiawf class. No brighter, busier boys ever set foot on Mercersburg soil than the twenty-nine line fellows who hold as gospel truth that '98 is pre-eminently the Class. Nor did ever such good, gay girls grace the College campus as the live merry Mercersburg maidens we claim in our membership. The peculiarities and eccentricities, characteristic of '98 would furnish abundant material for a voluminous edition but we shall mention m l , ere y a few personalities, recognizing the fact that the genuineness of our popularity is un- questioned and we need no advertisement. For examples of high scholarship we need only to refer to such men as Wiest, Muloch, Radcliffe, and Unger. First in order of altitude among this conglomerate aggregation is Muloch, pos- sessing at least some individuality, as bright as a dollar, as straight as a Cedar of Lebanon, and over a fathom in length. Another true specimen of '98 is found in ' b Lie erum, who, by a single manifestation of his muscular strength, terrified his would-be hazers- and imbued them with a sense of reverential submission. '98 has ever taken an active part in athletics. The brilliant achievements of Lieberum, R. Knight, Atwell, and Moore constitute a glorious record. Through h t ese men four-elevenths of the glory of the late foot ball season is accreditable to '98. U Phil Moore IS a veritable Gibralter of strength. Jimmie Atwell, Bryan's ' 1 KK i! riva , as the Boy Orator, will make his mark some day by igniting the world with his fiery eloquence. Jack Smith is the enterprising young manager of next year's l e even. Hafer is growing a moustache so that the fowls of the air may have a shelter in time of thunder storms. Bullfrog Bishop is supposed to be a native of Honolulu and a thirty-second cousin to Liliuokalani. And there are others, among whom are Sugar Lump Heller, ' Blondy Mc- Donald, Redio ' Reichelderferg Light, the luminary of the Caesar class' Fatt , Y Rupleyg Paddy Patterson, and 'Somnambulist Park. Wade Kline deserves mention as an athlete of u11usual ability and agility And why is Pat Conle so - Y bright in Greek? Because he has a pony, a real live pony. We must not, however, be unmindful of the representatives of YVoman's rights, they are the pride and joy of ,98-3 happy acquisition. Many good things remain to be said about so remarkable a class as is '98.
