that preeminence of talent, Which can only result in achievements far beyond present conceptions. . Th Cl. s of '96 has excelled in almost every department of skill and strength e as and has contributed more energy to the various enterprises than any other class. Take her in athletics. The grand success of the athletic department has been almost entirely due to the excellent Work of the 'class of ' 96. A ma- jority of the foot-ball teamyvere '96 men, none of Whom could be equalled for brilliant plays. The class also Won most of the prizes on Field Day, and we are sure that the success of the base-ball team Will depend on her men. However, our superiority in the Scientilic and Literary departments of the school has been even greater than in athletics. Five of the seven men constituting the Monthly staif' are '96 men. The Prize Debate, which took place on the evening of 'Washington's Birthday, was left entirely to '96 men. As to their oratorical ability, there need be given no more evidence than the fact that they have taken- all the prizes in declamation contests. We would not be justified in closing this history Without personal refer- ence to a few of the bright stars of the class. There is I-Ieilman, the adept in music, Whose piano strains are the Wonder and admiration of all who hear them. Next We will mention Huyett, the Shakespeare of Alexandria, who is not satisfied unless he has every school scene Worked into poetry. Of foot- ball fame We will mention Hagey, the famous heavy Weight center-rush, Bahner, Schneder, Dively, Grove and Hay, Whose massive strength and irre- sistible rushes Were too much for the Academy sluggers. Others Whom I must mention are B. Black and Reed, masters of human feeling 3 Epler, Who combines in his character sufficient ability to be a master of languages and, at the same time leader of the Guitar and Mandolin Clubs, Detrich, the adept in Latin, and J ones, the peer of Sullivan and leader of the Banjo Club. There are numerous others Who deserve special mention, but space will not permit. We are sure that your ideal of our class, from these brilliant facts, cannot be other than high. After graduation, although We Will still maintain our organization as the giassxgf '93, our interests will become less common, but We are sure that mem- hc Q io ave ,constituted so remarkable a class, will also win for themselves igh honor 1n life.
