A NECESSARY ORGANIZATION The Student Council at Mercer Middle School is a fine organization. Ms. Wisenbaker is the advisor to the club. The purpose of this organization is to provide students the opportunity to develop character and leadership ability. The Student Council always plans special activities and projects. Some of the activities follow: Toys for Toddlers, school films, Christmas door decorating contest, and community drives. The officers for the 1985-86 school year follow: Alison Sellers, president; Janice Johnston, vice president; Antionette Dwinell, secretary; Latrelle Brown, treasurer; Jay Melvin, eighth grade representative; Robbie Jones, seventh grade representative, and Allie Baker, sixth grade representative. Each homeroom class also has a Student Council representative. WE COULDN ' T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU! The entire yearbook staff salutes Mrs. Ellis, Ms. Stubbs, and Mr. Kennedy for their leadership and support this school year. They gave us the necessary instructions and saw to it that we remained on task. Working on the 1986 issue was quite an adventure, and we hope that the administrators, faculty, students, and parents will enjoy each page of the Raider. Take the time to relish the joy, the excitement, the growth, the discoveries, in this photo-history of the 1985-86 school year at Mercer. Enjoy the 1986 issue of the RAIDER. THE FRENCH CLUB ' he French Club is made up of students who have the ability to speak and understand the French language. Most tudents enjoy the club because it gives them the opportunity to show others how much they have learned during le semester. In addition, students enjoy learning about the French culture. The members of the French Club follow: ennifer Lewis, Chris Banks, Tracy Aldrich, Derrick Strickland, Chris Holt, Leslie Clifton, Stacey Roberts, Chrissy Kennedy, Robbie Hicks, Tina Woods, Talvia Bradley, Michael Davis, and Jason Martin. Mrs. Wisenbaker is the dvisor. MATH CONTEST WINNERS! Mercer ' s mathematics department sponsored a team of four students in the second annual Armstrong State College Middle School Mathematics Contest. The team members were John Bowers, Phillip Bridges, Jamie Kreyenbuhl, and Le-An Ledford. Mercer was well represented and placed fifth out of twelve schools, public and private. Mrs. Doris Ham coordinates math activities. 67
