Natural Helpers GAMBLERS ELP WANTED: Must be willing to gamble, to take risks. Must be good listener. Must be open and able to share. Must be a friend. Must be a Natural Helper. Life is a cruel game, and when one is losing, a friend can greatly lessen the pain. With such goals in mind, the MIHS Natural Helpers, the pioneering organization of its kind, lay their chips on the line for their fellow man. The Helpers provide an outlet for students who want to talk. They also put on an annual presentation for sixth graders and help new students adjust to Ml's environment. Rosemarie Linton, a Natural Helper, remarks, l'The experience with Natural Helpers has helped me to deal with my own problems. You realize that everybody is dealing with some conflict and that conflicts are normal. By simply accepting, by helping play one's cards instead of dealing them out, the Natural Helpers remains a gambling group which continues to dare to care. lNOT IN ORDER? Peg, Pegasus LINCOLN LCGS adies and gentlemen! During today's meeting, we shall review three pieces of work-a drawing, a poem, and a short story, Remember, each entry must be of quality. Let us begin. Ah yes, Pegasus. The winged horse of the Greeks. The perennial student compilation of the Islanders. The game of building. Every year, members of the student body submit their own written and artistic expressions to this club of gatherers and sorters. Every week, the Pegasus staff reviews seemingly endless amounts of student-produced poems, sketches, paintings, and essays, always adding to the mountain that appears as a book in the spring. Says staff member Hart Gilchrist, There is no limit to how much we put in. We take all good ones. This lack of limits makes the difficult task of building a quality product only slightly easier, however. Still, the sorting of the logs seems much less hard after one sees the cabin. The best thing about being on the Pegasus staff is seeing every creative talent, admits Gilchrist. Mercer Island may be a forest of skill, but the Pegasus staff brings all the logs together! nl PEGASUS I87 Karen Moller. KNOT PICTUREDl
