Well, obviously the MIHS Math doesn't appeal to everyone, then neither does paisley nor But, for some, the club a great way to meet new and have some good times. advisor Ginnie Stimpson says, club is for very bright kids, and place where they don't have to for being so bright. The Math Club deals with all sorts of math problems beyond those usually covered in class. Students raise the discussion topics, like logic and infinity, just out of curiosity. The club begins to prepare for the spring competition in January. They meet for an hour each week and have timed mini-competitions. After the time is up, everyone compares answers. The kids get into arguments over who is right. lt's a lot of fun, describes Stimpson. Math is fun? ights! Curtain! Action! MIHS is proud to present the Mercer Hi Harlequins! With a gesture here and a hint there, the l985-86 Drama Club played its games beautifully, entertaining the student body with guile and skill. The actors who created memorable illusions through the witty and insightful fall comedy, Charlie's Aunt, could have passed for near- professionals. Their charades hid nothing but solid talent. Supporting this skilled facade were the equally adroit, behind-the-scenes Harlequins. Without sets, lighting, makeup, costumes, and publicity, the step out of reality would not be complete. The actors' success was therefore their success. Utilizing all these components, the Harlequins' spring season featured three short plays: Kick Back of Venice, Last Bees from Lockerbee, and Nice People Dancing to Good Country Music. Increased student involvement resulted from the greater number of productions. More games, more playing! However, only after the auditions and rehearsals for the actors, the design and construction of the lighting and sets, the sewing and application of costumes and makeup, and the publicity to attract viewers from Mercer Island and beyond, do the Harlequins perform X Y g - wi ' , l , . 1 s. fi K! lABOVEl Vanessa Van Valin and Catie Light have fun before the play. lABOVE RIGHT! A tender moment on stage. l 80 Ml HARLEQUINS Mercer Hi Harlequins CHARADES their little charade. The games may take a while, but they are well wort the wait! With each play a hit, the Harlequir partied on! The practiced dramatist took off their masks after thrilling their audiences-one night at Denny's, another at a pizza place and still another at an all-nighter Tt diversity of the actors reflected in th variety of their pursuits. As one Harlequin explains, When else could a person be the wealthy widow of a Brazilian millionaire and divorcee who owns a bar all in the same year?
