l Too Tall for too short?Q -1 ey ., . 5 4 x rf FRESHMAN BASKETBALL The pounding of baslcetballs resounded once again on the floors of the North Campus gym. Basketball for ninth graders did not die out with the closing of North Mercer Junior High. The new frosh females turned out in November and began acquainting themselves with the basics of the game. Battling teams from Newport, Bellevue, and Issa- quah, these incoming Islanders became part of the illustrious Islander ball club. However with many high schools still in the process of becoming four year institutions, the freshman league was a hodge podge of teams from as far away as Vloodinville. Towards the end of the season, playing as many as three games a week, it became a contest of endur- ance. Outstanding in the team's season was the two- point victory over Eastside Catholic. Coach Dave Larsen predicted the freshmen program will grow stronger as the league becomes more experienced and will become a valuable feeder into the varsity teams. 152 Back Row Erin Bymes, Heidi Hughes, Traci Ceregino, Elyse Pangbom, Mary Robinson, Coach Dave Larsen. Mahooney, Dana Kusakabi, Bogus Bill, Scott Mackay, jeff Taraday, Tim Danforth, Mike Lillie As usual, the 1984-85 season was quite successful for the Boys' Swim Team finished off the season with a superb 9-1 record. The one loss suffered was to Kingco Champions, Lake Washington. The Kingco tournament left the Islanders in third place despite the absence of key swimmer, Mike Wayte. The twelve-year record totals are 106 wins, I9 losses and one tie! The team also capped the Crest Division Title. The success of the team was due in large part to the enormous tur- nout of freshmen and sophomore swimmers. The size of the team, coupled with the qual- ity of the returning lettermen enabled the Islanders to swamp most opponents. The only threats came from other large teams such as Interlake and Lake Washington. DIVI
