She's Barbara D. Milne, and she's a graduate Qin 19711 of William Paterson College in Wayne, N.I. While there, she was yearbook editor, student government representative, class officer, and coach and captain of the swimming team. In 1971, she was selected for Who's Who among Students in American Univer- sities, and now for the past three years, she's been up to her neck in the activities of MCCC. For all the thankless jobs, long hours, put downs and stand ups, the VIKING staff, on behalf of the Class of '76, dedicates this issue of VIKING '76 Barb and her boss, Alan I. SUMMER AT MCCC To students who have attended MCCC classes only during the spring and fall semesters, the summer session comes as something of a surprise. The student population is down 7005, and the air-condi- tioned buildings seem to lack that hectic, desperate pace which propels Mercer and its inhabitants at other times. Many students use this time to partici- pate in studio and performance courses, and the summer of '75 found swarms of energetic men and women with tennis rackets in their hands. A re- freshing swim, a walk in Rosen's park, a guitar lesson, a nap in the library - all seem possible and proper during Mercer's summer days. Mercer men and women were active both indoors and out. tlliil -. llltii H1222 satin HMM HHS l 3 - 7 tfffY.f1i,31 t?l97f i ' fur ' ' ' mfnlllllw' no Most of MCCC's wide variety of courses are offered during the summer too. 1 . 'VMNMWSNQ Performance courses attract many students. Perhaps the lack of scholastic pressures helps them succeed. 3 Wd text.. A lavish pro- duction, a huge cast and professional direction by Wil- liam I. Flynn made the story of Lili and her friends as charming and colorful as the Parisian circus in which this Bob Merrill score unfolds. To eighty-three mentally handicapped chil- dren from Trenton, Hamilton, East Windsor and West Windsor Townships, MCCC was the scene of a four-week long day camp directed by Mike Rothstein. Campers, from ages Five through fourteen, attended every week day, and the camp's finale was a gala occasion - a cookout, swimming party and carnival. Interested spectators included parents and MCCC staff members. 11 REGISTRATIO UPENING DAY SEPTE BER 4 1975 Over the mountains of the moon, Down in the valley of the Ride, boldly ride, The shade replied, - If you seek for Eldorado! THE KERNEY CENTER What Better way to end VIKING '76 than to celebrate the opening of the Iames Kerney Center, MCCC's new Trenton Campus, at Broad and Academy Streets. By the time VIKING '76 is distributed, this center fwhich contains library, classrooms, labs, health and food services, recreation areas and a day care center - 20,000 square feet of interior spacej will be in full use. Students who used the Kelsey Building and other relics of Trenton Iunior College and Mercer's first years will now make this modern urban center their scholastic home. Land for the center was purchased through a grant of S350,000, from the Iames Kerney Foundation which was founded in 1932 to honor the former publisher of The Trenton Times. Groundbreaking ceremonies took place on August 23, 19749 honored guests included New Iersey's governor, Brenden Byrne, Trenton's mayor, Arthur Holland, and the Director of the Mercer County Board of Chosen Freeholders, Arthur Sypek. W. Oliver Bucky Leggett offered the benediction, and S. Howard Woodson offered the invocation. Tours of the completed Kerney Center were conducted in Ianuary, 1976, and classes began there in February. 7 W I zf Q ff 4 -, 'X Wm gy M U if X N 'if Q. h N Q E 1 Wm f M , Ar ,,' ,f , 9, . wi A li . h h 5, .
