Nt A strike by some members of Mercer's secretarial staff co-incided with an expression of student dis- satisfaction with Mercer's policies of organization and management. A student moritorium evoked a full range of reactions, to some it was only an early manifestation of spring fever, to others, it was the be- ginning of student solidarity on important campus issues. june 14 brought the first graduation ceremony from the new campus. Over six hundred stu- dents earned their associates degrees. Mercer's special programs, including a program for pris- oners in four New jersey State Prisons, continued to provide specialized training in many areas. To some students graduation meant wearing an ab- surd costume, others viewed it as the opening of life's greatest doorway-the future. 91

SPECIAL EVENTS SPRING SEMESTER In March, B. B. King rocked the campus, and for the more traditional music lovers, Dr. Thomas Richner presented a piano lecture-demonstration in May. The spring semester included concerts from both inside and outside the school. Rahsaan Roland Kirk and the Vibration Society pleased the jazz fans, and Tom Paxton delighted the folk folks. May brought concerts by Mercer's Instrumental En- semble and Stage Band, the Spring Performing Arts Festival, the Drama Group's of You Can't Take it with You, directed by Mr. William Flynn, Princeton Modern Dance Repertory Company, and the West- minster College Choir. Throughout the year, various exhibitions of art pro- duced by Mercer faculty and students were seen around campus. The art display as part of the Spring Performing Arts Festival was the artistic high- light of the year.
